Tom White was optimistic about Myerscough's chances on the kitted bike. "At around 265 pounds it's a little heavy, but it handles well and it's got plenty of power to make up for the extra weight. The Lackey/Brian Manley camp felt the bikes had more than enough handling to make up for any power edge they might be giving away. Ron Lechien's factory Honda camp Myerscough wraps up thumper win By Kenneth Stein CARLSBAD, CA, DEC. 18 Brian Myerscough led Carlsbad Raceway to its first "White" Christmas today during Continental Motorsport Club's Skoal Bandit, Pro-Tee-sponsored four-stroke championship, beating the talent-rich Open Pro class aboard his White Bros.-prepped Yamaha TT600. 10 The top three finishers in the Open Pro clas and the top two in the 500 class, were the color of snow, as TT600 Yamaha has swept the Open class while a pair of the new Hu ky four-strokes led the 500s home. Myerscough's bike was loaded with was closed-mouthed about his ride, admitting to " 'slight' cam and valve spring modification, works forks, and an aluminum swingarm with a White Power shock." They neglected to mention the removal of the compression release, the lack of which would prove to be Lechien's downfall. Lechien holeshot the first moto with Brian Manley, Phil Larson, Myerscough and Lackey in tow. At the bottom of the uphill in the first lap, Lechien's high-compression engine stalled. Without the compression release, he lost a lap and a half trying to restart and the lead went to Manley. Suspension problems ended Lackey's efforts two laps into the melee, and Yamaha-powered john Whelchel moved to fourth.
