'laDe-Korth Dakota -Soath Dakota- loose fuel line allowed Richard Coker to fill that spot in the finallabulation of scores. Michael Weathers and the Coleman brothers, Jirnmyand Mikey, created a three-way pileup on the final lap that permilled Bobby Lewallen to tiptoe around the ground-bound trio and claim the big trophy in the Open Novice division. Weathers was livid at the brother' behavior, claiming after the fray that they had employed questionable tactics in poorly lighted sections of the track where the speclators could not ee them. ''I'll be glad when this lrack closes and those twO are for ed to race somewhere else. I've never seen them race anywhere but here. They got me in the middle tonight but I took bOlh of them down with me and then beat them bOlh," Weathers exhulted after the race. Although Jimmy was able to finish the moto, brother Michael was not as fortunate, breaking his clutch lever and retiring to the sidelines. When informed of Weathers' accusations, the older of the brothers examined his disabled clutch lever and grinned. "Michael just can't lake the heal. Me and Jimmy just like to race .motorcycles as hard as we can. Hell, ,if Jim"!:'Y get in my way, I'll knock him down." The parties involved were later seen in post-race revelry so the rivalry is not as intense as some would make il. For the evening, Lewallen was the overall victor, followed by Weathers and brother Jimmy. Trey Brizendine continued his comeback on a positive note by registering a win in the 250cc Novice class. Brizendine proved too quick over the course of the two-moLO contest, besting David Bauser and Jim Jernigan. Dearl Croft powered his TT600 fourstroke to unchallenged firsts in the Open Intermediate division although Marvin McKim had a large lead in the Opening heal. The lead was brief however, as McKim collided with Barry Briggs. Briggs had bailed off and was just rejoining the fun when he and McKim ran together. Croft gained control and did not relinquish that control for the remainder of the program. Bryan Briggs finished second and McKim was third. The Expert ranks were thinned by the impending GNC Regional Final on Sunday at Whitney but Jack Beckham was superb in keeping Frank Tello and Ron Dunfee behind him in the 250/0pen action and Ronnie Prado was fastest in the 125s. Cody Atkins won his first ever Mini Mini rrophy and James Rathmann was too much fonhe rest ofthe 250cc Beginner class. Gary Loth also recorded his first victory in the Open Beginners and Bob Goldade humbled his fellow Over 30 contestants. • UDCO liRe,.
