(Below) Vince McMahon is still the one to beat at Corona. way through the entire pack to challenge the Mdntyres/Farrell duel by lap eight. Carlo continued his fast, controlled pa e and cru ised across the fini h line with the distinction of being the only Intermediate of any size to not be lapped by this mota's top Pro, 2S0cc rider Scott Wilkinson (Han). Melntyres held off Farrell for second, Ellenburger was fourth. Farrell showed the Intermediates tbe fast wav around the track in round two. Carlo and Lustrick were in hot pursuit, but on the second Lap, it boiled over. It seems that Carlo and Lustrick wanted the same line in a right hander and in fighting for the IiQe, they took each other, as well as Melntyres, out of contention. Farrell continued to lead through the sixth lap when Malcolm Smith's Tom Thomsen (Yam) LOok over as the leader after charging through ome heavy traffic due to a bad start. Farrell wasn't content to let the race end in this order, and can equently gave the spectators a good show by catching back up to Thomsen. The IwO traded the lead back and forth, but Thomsen's Yamaha crossed the finish line first followed by Farrell in second, Ellenburger was third. The overall win went to Farrell's consistent 3-2, Thomsen's 5-1 netted him second, while Carlo' unlucky 1-5 landed him third. Veteran Jon A. Hall showed the 250cc Novice class that experience is the key, as he won bath mota. Daniel Lamy (Han) went 3-2 for second overall, while Yamaha mounted Richard Shaw's 2-3 gave him third. Scott Keller McMahon tops Saturday Saddleback Pros By Terry Whytal ORANGE, CA, NOV. 26 Vince McMahon debuted his new 1984 Yamaha 250 at this week's Saddleback motocross race at Saddleback Park, swept 1:•• both motos and took home the big purse of the day. McMahon powered to an early lead in mota one with Yamaha rider Ian Fiugibbon settling into the numbertwo slot and following McMahon to the checkers. Once again the Yamaha support/Malcolm Smith-rider pulled away with the lead and cruised to an easy win in round two to earn the overall payoff. Fitzgibbon placed second again with Suzuki-pilot Brand Johnson moving up to take third overall ahead of KTM-mounted Russ Campbell. Todd Gibboney mastered the2SOcc Intermediate class over tough competition from Suzuki-rider Luc De Ley and Yamaha-pilot Ron Lawson. De Ley chased Gibboney to the checkers in mota-one action but dropped to third in the second round as Lawson challenged for the lead position. Gibboney held on to sweep both motos with De Ley earning the runner-up spot with Lawson taking third overall. Chuck Whitmore powered his Suzu- ki ta the 125cc Novice class win. Whitmore was first to the checkers in both motas with Robert Sheldon using a pair of thirds to place his Suzuki third for the day ahead of John Lembeck on another Suzuki. Results 250 PRO: 1. Poet nabs last ARRA race of the Year at Riverside By Lori Tyson RIVERSIDE, CAL, DEC. 4 The American Road Racing Association's new '83 dub Champion Jim Poet didn't smile much after Capturing the number-one plate at River ide International Raceway in the Last race of the year. First of all, he was quite ill with the flu. Then, in his very first race of the day, the 600cc Super Street, his tricked-out GPz threw a rod right out the front of the motor at the start. Poet had to ride his stocker the rest of the day, but was still able to gain enough points from two second-place finishes ta secure· the premiere position for next year. After Poet dropped out of the 600cc Super Street race, Hesh Bohrer grabbed the holeshot and led until turn six where he pu hed it a bit too hard and got off into the armE0" ending up a little dazed-and-confused. Jim Vreeke then proceeded to go to war with the new AFM numberone holder Earl Roloff. In a bi t of a departure from his usual Kawasakis, Earl piloted a Yoshirmura Yamaha Seca and, after a race-long duel, took the trophy slightly ahead of Vreeke. The battle for third was a good one also, with Chris McNellis and Marty Vogel going for it. McNellis took it with Vogel a close fourth. The 4SOcc Production had a strange twist to it. Mark Capell, one of the front runners in the points standings, had crashed hard at the last AFM race two weeks earlier and practically destroyed his shoulder, so nobody really even expected to see him at this race, let alone racing. As the race started Capell, points-leader Clint Whitehouse and Steve Dilallo got into a heated debate over the lead and were neck-and-neck until lap five when Whitehouse's tire blew out. Capell and Dilallo continued to fight hard to the end when Capell took the win and the class championship. In Formula One Larry Sborts and Chris Steward did battle out front until Steward was able ta pull out a bitof a lead, leaving Shorts, who was riding on very used tires, to dice it up with Carry Andrew and Len Gamba. After a good race Shorts took second, followed by HypercycleiLockhartsponsored Andrew in third. But in the Open Super Street race Andrew was not so fortunate - he threw it away in turn one in the first lap, amazingly, only injuring his ankle and his ego. Harry Klinzmann grabbed the lead leaving behind quite a conflict over second with Tony Guest, Shorts, Mark Thomas and Earl Roloff going at it. After a racelong swapping match, Thomas took second behind Klinzmann, who held a healthy lead rna t of the race. Ducati-mounted Guest followed in third. Len Gamba led the 750cc Super Street flag-to-flag to take the win followed by Jeff Tuttobene and Chris Mencher in second and third, respectively, In Formula Three Steve Biganski took an early lead and appeared to have the win sewn up until his machine ceased to function in the fifth lap. Chris Steward had started the race nearly last, but by that point, he had worked his way up to Steve's back door and "seized" the opportunity to take over the lead and went on to snatch the win and the Formula Three Championship. Jay Tanner took the second-place trophy after a good show, with Terry Yarger claiming third. J ames Henderson and Dave Behrendt had a hard time deciding fourth place, with Behrendt the eventual victor. Earl Roloff took an early lead and an easy win in the 7SOcc-Open Production with a lot of action going on behind him. Tony Guest put his claim on the second spot, but Open classers Bill Cain, Earl Campbell and 750cc Jeff Tuttobene were still arguing over third overall. By the end of the race Tuttobene won the toss-up (and first 750cc) with Campbell's Ducati taking fourth (third Open class). Mark Shelton borrowed an old bike from Royce Flora, and he and Scott Harmala mixed it up with Cain toward the end with Shelton taking second 75Occ. Results 600 SUPER STREET: 1. Earl Roloff (Vam); 2.
