Fifty-one-year-old Duane Spence (150) and AI Bauman. 42. battle it out in Old Timers action at the Sears Point motocross. Cahors, Dashiell split cash at Sears Point MX By W.H. Spencer SONOMA, CA, NOV. 27 As the calendar year winds down, Sears Point Raceway began its Wimer Series motocross today with a good crowd of .. 24 both riders and spectators on hand. Brett Cahors and Larry Dashiell split a $100 bill for top Expert honors on a Sunday that saw the temperature in the 60s, clear blue skies and unbelievable u-action. Despite earlier rains, two days of wind and clear weather saw perfect practice for the nearly 230 riders, with Bret Cahors leading the 125cc Junior/Expert class for both moLOS with ease. Cahors led all laps on his Honda, with John Papolataking second Expert but behind Juniors Mike Brumit and Tim CarriIlo, who swapped maLO wins. Race three was the hot and heavy 250cc Experts and with nearly 20 riders going for the first turn there were two who didn't make it. Darrick Lucchesi and Dave Wood had a slight coming LOgether that put Dave back with the oncoming Juniors and Darrick off to the pits for repairs. Round ing the urst lap it was Steve Naumann on the Walnut Creek Honda in charge over Joey Schlag, Randy Collins and Larry Da ·hiell. Naumann kept up the pace for the 20-minute moLO, with Dashiell doing the passing and taking second over Schalg and a weezingCR, with CoIl ins fourth and Pete Langley an unhapy fifth. Brett Cahors, who rode a fine fifth in the first round until the rear suspension got the better of him, set out with a refreshed shock in maLO two and proceeded LO devour' the other riders. Schlag kept it close starting the second lap but bailed in spectacular form on an uphill that saw bike and rider flying for some distance, leaving Schlag sore and a DNF. Cahors was more than 20 seconds ahead by the second lap, with Naumann and Dashiell doing the chasing from the back of the pack. The two speedsters got by Jay Cook and Randy ColIjns at mid-race, LOwing-Pete Langley: but were unable.to close any distance on the leader. Naumann picked up the avera II with a 1-2 over Dashiell, 2-3, with Langley third at a 5-4 count over CoIlins and Cook. Larry DashieIl and his Petaluma Cycle Center Maico wiped up rhe Open Junior/Expert fracas with big wins and LOok half of the posted $100 bonus for best Expert finish, tying Cahors' 125c performance. Pete Langley wasn't real happy about his 2-2 finish on the KX500, while Bob Davis and Troy DeHerrera were talking about their short-lived battle after the race at the "Sudweiser" station. Arney turns up the Wick at Caldwell indoor ST By Marty Gregory CADLWELL, 10, NOV. 25-26 Arney Wick styled smoothly to wins in two of four Expert main events at Caldwell's indoor short track opening weekend. Wick (Han) won the 250cc race on Friday and the Open class on Saturday, leaving the other Open win to local boy Jerry Moore (Han) and the 250cc main to Montanan Todd Giesick (Yam). Now in its third season, the Owyhee Motorcycle Club's indoor short track series is growing in quality. Tremendous battles were staged in the Expert c1asse and the crowd loved it! Giesick was amazing; rocketing out of corners on the rear wheel and sliding, crossed-up and twitchin', - -aroundthem! Giesick's BSA wouldn't work for SalUrday's Open class showdown, though, and it was Wick's Honda thumper which won the day. Wick has driven from Coeurd' Alene LO make every short track held here (except for one he missed 'cause he was getting married) and his experience on the track shows. A talent-laden field raced in both the 250cc and Open mains on both nights. Local fast guys like Rod Reynolds, Ricky Henson, Jerry Moore and John Colton were there; along with your basic motocross ringer; Joe Wright, on a new CR500 with a Class C tire slUck on the back. Wright used all that power well to run third on Friday night behind winner Jerry Moore (Han) and Ricky Henson (Yam). Both Wick and Giesick got hung upin traffic and weren't factors. Friday night's 250cc main was mme to Wick's liking as a pile-up took most of the field out of contention. John ColLOn (Kaw) screeched after him, but to no avail. Among Friday night's smaller Experts, Toby Ashley (Kaw) held off a determined Mark Tapp (Han) to grab the Mini money. Tapp, a first-year Expert, was concerned about not being a Beginner anymore before this race. Hopefully, he's proven something LO himself. MXer Mark HaIl zipped his Yamaha water-pumper around to best Troy Norris (Han) and Ashley (Han) in the I25cc Expert event. The B's had lots of fun both nights. Terry Anderson demol ished the 250cc crazies on his Suzuki and then came backon Glenn Murray's Honda track bike to blow the doors off the Open Beginners. The Irby brothers, Jon and Jeff, dominated the Mini Bs and the 125cc Bs respectively on their Kaws while two more Kawasaki pilots, Richie Reynolds and James Cyr, traded Micro wins on Friday and SalUrday. And one shouldn't overlook the tremendous charge put in the Pee Wees by Ca ey Anderson LO overtake "Racin' Jason" Smith (all 35 pounds of him) at the line on a rapp d-out Y-Zinger! The crowd, needless to say, went berserk! Saturday night'S 250cc Expert main was all Giesick. The Billings white plate holder blitzed to a big lead and never looked back. Jerry Moore and Mike Hayman (Han) followed him home, at a distance. In the final Open main though, it was a disappointed Todd Giesick watching from over the fence where his BSA sat with its dead battery. Wick pulled the holeshot and didn't bobble enough for Rich Hayman (yes, there are two) on his two-stroke to catch up. Henson, OMC points champ last season, thumped smoothly into third aboard a 600 Yammie borrowed for the occasion from big Fred Johnson. Results FRIDAY PEE WEE: ,. Jason Smith (Yam); 2. The 'Bowman Show' plays' at Spillway By Jim Pluhar SANTA MARIA, CA, NOV. 27 Spillway Park held its twicemonthly motocross race today, with 50 riders showing up to test the track and themselves, The Pro events were an all-Gary Bowman show as Bowman won twice each in both the 125 and 250cc Pro classes to finish the day with a fourwin LOtal to take all the top Pro money back to Bakersfield with him, Jim Smith placed second in the 250cc class and Tony Toste was second in the 125cc wal'S. Heiberger, Schlag duel in SHR mud By Jim Bowman BRENTWOOD, CA, NOV. 20 Honda-mounted Jerome Heiberger beat Joey Schlag for top Pro honors at the Continental Motosport Club MX at Sand Hill Ranch today. Schlag holeshot both motos, but Heiberger kept the pressure on in the second round and took over the lead when Schlag got out of shape while removing a tearoff, Scott Rebuck motored his l25cc Honda to distant third-place finishes in both motos for the same position in the combined Pro class. As the race occured during a break between rainstor.ms, some of the 80cc class riders found themselves riding more of an enduro than a motorcross. Lone Expert Yamaha pilot Terry Bastard had no trouble winning the first moto, but had trouble on lap two of the second round and couldn't set the bike restarted in time. Intermediate Lance Homer won the econd moto and his class with a 2-1 tally, WhileGaryStonerwasable to overcome the waterholes and slippery hills for the Junior class win. All the 125, 250 and Open Junior clas riders ran in the third race, with Open Junior chiss winner Stan Harris trading the checkers with top 250cc Junior pilot RiChard Horne,
