Holley, Maki manage CRC Dunes victories By Tom Corley VALENCIA, CA, NOV. 20 While the rains washed out Saddleback Park racing, Indian Dunes' sandy terrain allowed the California Racing Club's Frank flies to Saddleback Intermediate win By Tom Corley IRVINE, CA, NOV. 27 Yamaha Gear/Superseer-sponsored Billy Frank is out of the Mini Expert class and is quickly working his way up to the Pro - ranks. In the process of advancing he is currently blasting away the 125cc Intermediate class. "Mr. Bill" £lew to the win in both motos of the 125cc Intermediate class in today's California Racing Club's motocross at Saddleback. The 125cc Intermediate competition has seen changes recently, with top riders Kenny Clifton and Richard Fleming moving up to the Pro ranks ·after the Trans-Cal. Yet there is new talent coming into the gro~p with Jeff Matiasevich, one of tlje WInmngest Novices, now tackling the faster pack. Posing the biggest threat. to eventual winner Billy Frank was Dick Allen's Honda rider Rich Truchinski, who rarely fails to take a top position in Intermediate racing. The fast Honda' of Truchinski leaped ahead of the pack with the start of the first moto. DMC/PJ-l rider Derek Nye was in second. CEET rider John Davis maintained third. Temporarily in fourth place was Frank. Davis soon dropped back and gave away third place to Frank. One by one Frank worked his way past the competition. Going around a tree In the back section, Frank advanced to second place and demoted Nye. Soon Nye crashed. his Honda ~nd moved to the baek of the pack. On this same lap Frank zapped the leader Truchinski and was then on top. Once Frank swept past Truchinski he built up a huge lead. Truchinski took a secure second place. Allee Bros. rider Jason Neuman did a great job of playing catch upand worked from the back of the pack to land third place. Jon Boy Barrick rode his Mid Cities Honda to fourth place. Motocross Action ace Alan Olson put his Kawasaki into fifth place. . Avoiding the trouble of dodgIng around the competition, Frank took the holeshot in·the second moto and held it until the checkered started waving. Truchinski started in the runner-up spot and ended that way. The real struggle was for third place. Jim Matiasevich was in third and doing a good job of blocking Sunwest Yamaha's Mark Lopera and Alan Olson. The pressure was on Matiasevich who finally gave way and allowed Lopera and Olson to take third and fourth with him dropping back to fifth. Frank won both motos and built up such a great lead that he looked ready for the Pro class. Truchinski chalked up a pair of seconds and won that position overall. Olson had a 5-4 tally for third place and won the Veteran Expert class as well. Neuman's 3-6 put him in fourth place. Rounding out the top five was Lance Rieman. Results 60 INT: 1.
