The ride began in Barstow at Barnes Yamaha. With temperatures close to the freezing point, hot coffee was in great demand. Wheelie artist Kerry Day was on hand at the finish to provide riders with a demonstration of his mono-wheel antics. The Victor Mclaglen Motor Corps forms a Harley-powered pyramid for the finishers at the last checkpoint in las Vegas. 700 ride B·Z· V road run Not to be outdone, bicycle star Brian Scura put on a leg-powered show of his own. By Harry Fisher Photos by Skip Johnson and Fisher BARSTOW, CAlLAS VEGAS, V, NOV. 26 The weather was at the freezing mark at·the starting point, but that didn't stop over 700 hardy road riders from participating in the AMA D-3 7-sanctioned B-2- V Poker Run hosted by the Victor McLaglen Motor Corps. The run began at Barnes Yamaha in Barstow, where the 12 entrants were hosted with hot coffee donated by the Husky Truck Stop and donuts supplied by the King 8 Hotel and Gambling Hall, Las Vegas. The Mixed Breeds Motorcycle Club assisted the Victor McLaglen Motor Corps with a very smoothly run sign- in and first checkpoint. Entrants came [rom as far away as Utah, Arizona, and Sacramento. There were 702 sign-ins and one cat (didn't sign in). The cat has attende.d most of the poker runs put on in southern California this year, and didn't want to miss out on this one. First checkpoint was at Baker and the route there was up Interstate 15. Along the route, and at Baker, the riders watched the riders in the Barstow to Vegas race; who incidentally. seemed to be going as fast as the road riders. The ride then went towards hoshone, turned right, and stopped at Pahrump. The townspeople really gOt a charge from watching all the motorcycles pass through town. Then they went on toward Pop's Oasi in Jean. Nevada. There, again, the riders were treated to hot coffee. The temperature rose to about 57° and was getting more pleasant. The finish was at the King 8 Hotel and Gambling Hall'where the riders spun theirfinal number on the poker wheel in the parking lot. then had more festivities. Kerry Day, an accomplished wheelie expert, put his motorcycle through some pretty difficult maneuvers on the back wheel - he's apt to be a strong contender to Doug Domokos' world titles. All this was followed by a 30-minute performance by the Victor McLaglen Motor Corps, doing their trick riding and drill maneuvers.
