Rain doesn't dampen Turkey .Run spirit By Bruce Scholten Photo by AI Anderberg LYNNWOOD, CA, NOV. 19 Grandpa always said lurkeys' are just too dumb'to come in out of the rain. On the other hand it could be lhe lure of o cash and prizes that keeps them there. At least that was the case for nearly 100 entrants in Lynnwood Cycle Barn's Fourth Annual Turkey Run today. Right on schedule, the biggest and baddest of an already impressive series of Ala'ska-spawned storms rolled in by noon. Armed with a map and directions to three checkpoints on the timed 92.5-mile route, the first bike then left. "That's what makes'it fun," insisted Cycle Barn partsman Jim Earp, "the weather's terrible. Wish I didn't have to work." But one suspects he was laughing up his sleeve at the folks gelling rapidly soaked, in the name of fun. From Lynnwood the itenerary wound east through the Snohomish Valley toward Duvall. Just gelling to this first check required close reading of the directions! Next was a stop for hot cider at Snoqualamie Falls before heading west of Lake Sammamish to check three on Lake Washington. Around 4 p.m. everyone wound up at Cycle Barn to gobble down plenty of hot chili and sandwiches. As local radio station KKW did a live broadcast, Honda Interstate rider Stan Haveman won $50 as the oldestrider, at68 years.
