PRODUCT EVALUATION Don't miss the Pro Rider Benefit Auction Sunday, Dec. 4, 3 p.m. Malcolm Smith Professional Enduro Jacket The trouble with riding a motorcycle is that you have to dres like a motorcyclist. That used to mean heavy, sweaty, ugly jackets. But now the hard-riding guy at Malcolm mith Products are producing a tate-of-the-art jacket that is light as a shirl, windproof, waterproof, and breathes. Besides, it is darned good looking. Cycle News sent its most critical grump to test the new Malcolm Smith Professional Enduro Jacket in a fast trail ride from the de en to the pine mountains of Arizona. The garment is cut to fit comfortably in all riding positions. It is nicely styled, in red and blue or all blue. Cuffs and collar are neoprene foam, like a wet suit's, with Velcro latches. Pockets and front zipper are sealed with Velcro also. A neat, easy-latch belt stops any flapping and gives you that hourglass look. Across the back there is a zippered flap you can open when the heat is too intense, but for all our riding so far. the Gore-Tex lining -Ibreathed enough to ke p u comfortable. Gore-Tex is the new wonder fabric that is worn by skiers, mountain climbers and astronauts. It is a kind of expanded Teflon that lets sweat vapor out, but doe n't let water in. Thus, even on a hot, rainy day, you stay dry and comfortable. Bonded to nylon. as in Malcolm's new jacket. and lined with perforated motocro jersey cloth, the garment really does give rider the weather and crash protection thal we need. We crash tested the jacket down a sharp rocky hill and found the strawberry factor mini, mal, surviving no worse for wear than if we'd worn a heavy horsehide jacket. Even our resident grump could find no fault with the Malcolm Smith Enduro Pro Jacket. At $159.95 with a year's warranty, it will keep you comfortable and dry and afe and looking good. Not just enduro riders but any motorcycle rider will like this jacket. You can toss away the top half of your rainsuit. The Malcolm Smith Gore-'Jex jacket is available from Malcolm at 714/687-1300 or your dealer, just in time £Or Christmas.
