Huffman, who had been out of town on tl\8t weekend, said "KNBC (Channel 4) called my office on Friday looking for the check for the aif! time, when it was actually at my syndicator's office waiting to be picked up." The snafu. plus what Huffman termed as newly i""posed insurance requirements "t,hat weren't in our budget" have c_used the show's producers to put the new series on hiatus until January. In the meantime the original 13-week series will begin.a se.qond run on San Diego's KUSI Channel 51 the first week of D,eember. The original series has also been purchased by a group of Reno, Nevada, motorcycle dealers to begin a run on that city's ABC affiliate. As far as the new series of shows and their future on KI'iIBC, Huffman said that he had nothing in writing t~at KNBC would run the show, but said, "We proved that we can produce a motorcycle show and get good ratings, even up against such stiff competition as college football." American Turbo-Pack, which went bankrupt a couple oC years ago, is being resurrected. The new owner is Billy Closon, and Dave Brewer, Cormerly oC R.C. Engineering, will be m3:!1aging the business. They have acquired the rights to ATP designs, as ell as the old inventory. "The new ATP will be supplying new kits to'those wishing to turbocharge their machines," said Brewer, "as well as parts to owners of older ATP kits." Following the withdrawal of Kawasa'lli's factory road racing effort, Rob Muzzy and Mark Johnson have been named Team Green race coordinators with Kawasaki Motors Corp., USA, it was announced by Team Green Manager Bnice Stjernstrom. Team Green is ~wasaki'sracing support program wl1ich provides motorcycles, threewheelers, parts and technical assistance to selected professional an amateur riders. Muzzy, 41, was mSst recently crew chief for the Kawasaki road racing effort. In his new position, he assumes the responsiblity for all of Kawasaki's three-wheel racing activities. Johnson has been with Kawasaki since 1979, serving as the mechanic for Team Kawasaki motocross rider Jeff Ward and last year as amechanic for 1983 Superbike Champion Wayne Rainey. He will now sarve as the coordinator for Kawasaki's amateur motocross racing. Obse;~ed' trials legend Sammy Miller scored his historic IOOOth overall win in trials competition, adding yet another pearl to a list of accomplishments too long to go into here. Riding a 310 Armstrong, Miller won the President's Cup Trial in Emborough, Somerset on October 15, beating his nearest rival by 10 points. Papa'll tip his tankard in a toast to Miller, a magician on two wheels for 35 years. Suzuki has been named as the' supplier of motorcycles and allterrain vehicles for the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In making the announcement, the company's press release said, "In addition to Suzuki getting involved, with the world's most-respected athletic event, the naming of the compeny as a supplier to the 1984 Games is expected to enhance the image of motorcycling in general. Some ofthe largestand most prestigious corporations in the United Stetes ara helping to support the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, the first Olympics ever to receive no taxpayer or government support. Rumors have reached our sensitive ears with the news that Motorcyclist Magazine is testing one of the new BMW KIOO-4 in-hne-fours that we showed you two issues ago. One of our reliable sources says that staffer Jeff Karr turned in a 12.4-second quarter mile at 110 miles per hour. Due to an advertising department error, some important copy was left off the John's Cycle Parts ad that appeared in the last issue of Cycle The ad copy provided by John's specifically limited their new management's grand opening to Saturday, October 29. We regret the error and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. "e... Southern California motocrosser Louie Franco was invited by Bob Dejong, a Dutch TV producer, to ride the Indoor Moto Sport Gala in Rotterdam, Holland. Franco will also ride an indoor race in Wuvstwezel, Belgium. Although Franco will be riding a Honda 125 in these events, Dejong entered him in his first-ever 500cc event, the International Beach Race in Schevenivgen, Holland, to give Franco a taste of overseas competition. Franco placed 17th overall in the 500rider field, 300 of whom were profes· sionals. Franco's sponsors are O'Neal, Simpson, Scott and PJI. A public meeting of the California Desert Advisory Council will be held in San Diego on Friday and Saturday, November 4-5. The meeting will focus on the Bureau of Land Management's handling of almost 200.000 acres in San Diego County, and one of the items on the agenda includes the Stete of California's Parks and Recreation Department Off-Highway Vehicle Plan. Amendments to the California Desert Plan will also be discussed. The meetings will be held in the Town and Country Hotel's Sunrise Room, 500 Hotel Circle North. The Friday session will go from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the Saturday session 8 a.m. to noon. Contrary to what our Calendar section indicated last week, the southern California British Road Ride will be held November 6, not 26. Ride organizer Pat Owens inCorms us that Sammy Tanner signed and donated an Arai helmet to the run's rame, which will benefit the District 37 Legal Defense Fund. Owens is currently having other top British-bike competitors such as Jack Wilson, Jon Minnono, Eddie Mulder and Skip Van Leeuwen sign the helmet prior to its being raffled off.
