We pictured NMRA Indy Top Fuel winner Jim Bernard on the cover of Cycle
News 40 years ago... Washougal hosted round six of the 125 and 500cc
Motocross Championships. Mark Barnett won the 125cc class, gaining
ground on points leader Broc Glover. Chuck Sun won both 500cc motos
to close in on the big-bore championship... Warren Reid won all three Pro
classes at the Mammoth Mountain Motocross... We chatted with 250cc
National Motocross Champion Kent Howerton... We also took a close-up
look at Marty Moates' Carlsbad-winning LOP Yamaha YZ490.

"Bouncing" Bob letting the racers go at the Castle Rock National TT
was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. As the headlines
reads, Dick Mann took the win and moved into the championship points
lead that night... Edison Dye's "European Invasion" stormed into Puyallup,
Washington, where Finland's Heikki Mikkola came away with the overall
win. John DeSoto was the top American finisher in fourth overall. Bob
Grossi was fifth... Whitey Martino won the Lost Coyotes Hare Scrambles in
Hi Vista, California.
