the Yamaha pilot on lap seven. Weber moved up to challenge Nash for second butcouldn'tget by, due mostly to lapped riders. At the checkered flag it was Williamson first, Nash, with a strong second and Weber in third. Weber did a repeat performance of his first moto start with yet another holeshot ahead of Prievr, Williamson, and Answer Products Ken Campbell (.Kaw). Weber was not about to repeat the less profitable aspects of his first moto and began stretching his lead wi th each lap: Prievr was running second and doin.g a fine job of holding off Williamson. Nash was having some trouble holding on to Prievr and Williamson mid-moto, but Nash regained some steam and moved back up to challenge Prievr, who was passed by Williamson on lap nine. The checkered nag saw Weber first, Williamson second, and Prievr third. Williamson's 1-2 score' edged out Weber's 3-1 for first, while Nash's 2-4 g~,:e him third overall. Results FORMULA 1: 1. JIV".iamson, top Pro atDeAnzaMX e By Michael Gillies SUNNYMEAD, CA, SEPT. 25 .Montclair Yamaha's Keith Williamson (Yam) emerged the yictor in DeAnza Cycle Park's '250cc Pro class today after a eated battle with Honda mounted Greg Nash and Pamona Valley Kawasaki's Pat Weber. In the first Moto, Weber and his lGIwasaki shot into the lead followed oy Williamson, Nash, and Pamona Suzuki's Jeff Prievr. Weber held a iOlid first place until the second lap :.W-hen a crash dropped him to fourth. Nash was now out in front with Wi1iliamson just inches behind. Weber asted no time reeling in Prievr and passed him on the fourth lap, putting him in third place. Meanwhile, Wil11.. mson's pressure was slowly wearing on Nash, who finally gave in to PEE WEE: ,. Griswold kleen sweepsPRRO By John Arthur Burrus PHOENIX, AZ, SEPT. 25 Unsponsored Todd Griswold outof Prescott Valley, Arizona, never got to look at the wrong end of an exhaust pipe as he practically coasted throu~h two heats each of Super Street and Grand Prix competition for Phoenix Road Racing Organization's season opener at Pttoenix International Raceway. Griswold ran an only slightly modified older model Suzuki 1000 a good half lap ahead ofthe competition through the wide open Formula I category, then did the same thing in Open . Super Street - and all on a somewhat oily track. One other big standout was Kevin Elliott at the throttle of MotorcycleMarine's mean green lOOOR Kawasaki taking two heats in the Open displacement Box Stocker category. Kevin got hung up in traffic but came out for the win in his first heat, then blistered the course in his second sprint. Starting &om a half-lap behind the GP sleds, Elliott was the closest thing to Todd Griswold when the checkers dropped; having threaded his way through the entire field minus one. In the 750cc or thereabouts stocker category, perrennial winner Mike Williams took both heats behind the tillers of a Sun Suzuki-Moto Pro sponsored 750 Suzuki, plus the overall win in B class Super Street. . ~ Q,) .0 o .... u o Chris Steward (40) captured the win in the Formula One class while Mark Thomas settled for second at Willow Springs road racing action. Award for the best pit crew went to the third-place winner in C Super Street Joseph Ali, who talked two very dedicated ladies into bump start'ng his old 500 Kaw two-stroker triple. Antillion, Hopkins and L.ewis set Dunes afire By Tom Griffith VALENCIA, CA, SEPT. 25 Steady, hard-charging racing characterized today's combat as American Motocross Enterprises took its turn on the International Track at Indian Dunes Cycle Park. Aaron Lewis kept getting the "think" sign from his d..d throughout both motos as his younger brother Lewis took a strong command of second place each goof the Mini Juniors. Riding on the rear tire of Bakersfield's Brian Peoples, these two Jun.iors moved away from the field at each gate with such ease the rest of the pack looked to be in a separate race. Peoples was able to hold off Lewis for the holes hot each molO, but Peoples went down in moto one out in the sand to settle for second and swallowed too much sand in moto two to record a DNF. No doubt both these outstanding Juniors will be doing battle as ranking Intermediates real soon. In the l25cc Beginner gate a familiar face appeared, one Robert Hopkins aboard brother Joe's RM125. At 14 years old and a skant 100 pounds, Robert pushed the R&D prepped bike to the holeshot in moto one and into second in moto two. Leading the first moto all the way, Robert worked hard keeping Tony Mayes at bay and these two easily out-distanced the field to finish 1-2. The second moto saw Mayes take the holeshot only to be passed before the tank-trap hairpin as Robert again rode in first. But this time Mayes pushed harder and stayed even closer than in moto one. Again these two hotshoes left the field as they pushed each other far into the lead. Going for the lead on the last lap, Mayes stuffed a sand rut ..nd fell but recovered to finish 2-4 for second behind a perfect I-I ride of Hopkins. The Intermediate class, lined 15 of the Southland's fastest at the gate, providing the closest contest of the day with the overall outcome not decided until the checker of moto two. Fully, the top-ten riders stayed within .. few bikelengths of each other the entire race with constant passing and dicing the whole go. Taking the first checker honors went to Crossroads Suzuki rider Jeff Segale followed closely by Keith O'Neal and David Anti II ion and seven more riders. The second moto spared none of the first's thrills as into the last lap the new leader David Antillion was not assured of the win until O'Neal bobbled. Sailors copped second and Pullar avoided O'Neal to grab third. A fine effort netted Ihe overall to Antillion followed by Pullar in second, Collier third and O'Neal fourth. Results ·PEE WEE: 1.
