old Mike Michetti on his dad's CR480
Honda. Michetti, who is normally
seen roosting (he Mini Novice class
on a KX80, took second behind Danny
Morales (Hon). Mike Siegman (Yam)

was Steve Rhyan on another fired-up
Honda. After the gate dropped, Rhyan
quickly hustled his way past Matt
Tedder (Hon) and Vic Walker (Hon).
He then chased Turk until passing
him at the foot of the Carlsbad freeway on the eighth lap to stay out
front for three more go-rounds.
Gelling the "think fast" sign on
the last lap, Turk was in luck when
Rhyan blew a shock and boinged
around the track 10 second, as Turk
flew past him for the win.
Almost scorching his foes from
holeshotto finish in the second molO,
Turk was passed only brieIly by Tedder on the first lap. It didn't take
Turk long lO regain the number one
spot. Off and sailing over the jumps,
Turk steadily increased the distance
between the competition and himself
10 reach the finish line with ease.
Tedder and Walker were somewhere
behind Turk, having their own private battle. Walker overtook second
place on the last lap as they headed
over the cliff known as "Devil's
Drop." Unfortunately Walker did stop
in his tracks after front brake cable
trouble tripped bim up about 80 feet
from the checkered flag.
Tedder then rolled around the cri ppled Honda pilot to second place and
second overall, while Walker walked
his mount to fourth place for an
overall third. Taking third after sneaking past Walker was Dave Eropkin,
sixth overall.
Mechanical bug-a-boos did sack
Don Turk in the 250cc Pro class,
knocking him back to second place
in the points race. However, overaJI
250cc Pro winner Scott Sargent, on
his sizzling Suzuki, didn't let anything get in his way once he left the
starting line. Not even a fractured
neck bone and cracked rib he received
in the Ensenada 5000 three weeks
ago, slowed the 16 year old down as
he copped third in the first molO and
first in the second. Mark Howell, on a
Yamaha, won the first molO, but
ended up sixth in the second for third
overall behind a consistent David
Hopwood.
