Mike Siegman (Yam) settled [or third. was Steve Rhyan on another fired-up Honda. After the gate dropped, Rhyan quickly hustled his way past Matt Tedder (Hon) and Vic Walker (Hon). He then chased Turk until passing him at the foot of the Carlsbad freeway on the eighth lap to stay out front for three more go-rounds. Gelling the "think fast" sign on the last lap, Turk was in luck when Rhyan blew a shock and boinged around the track 10 second, as Turk flew past him for the win. Almost scorching his foes from holeshotto finish in the second molO, Turk was passed only brieIly by Tedder on the first lap. It didn't take Turk long lO regain the number one spot. Off and sailing over the jumps, Turk steadily increased the distance between the competition and himself 10 reach the finish line with ease. Tedder and Walker were somewhere behind Turk, having their own private battle. Walker overtook second place on the last lap as they headed over the cliff known as "Devil's Drop." Unfortunately Walker did stop in his tracks after front brake cable trouble tripped bim up about 80 feet from the checkered flag. Tedder then rolled around the cri ppled Honda pilot to second place and second overall, while Walker walked his mount to fourth place for an overall third. Taking third after sneaking past Walker was Dave Eropkin, sixth overall. Mechanical bug-a-boos did sack Don Turk in the 250cc Pro class, knocking him back to second place in the points race. However, overaJI 250cc Pro winner Scott Sargent, on his sizzling Suzuki, didn't let anything get in his way once he left the starting line. Not even a fractured neck bone and cracked rib he received in the Ensenada 5000 three weeks ago, slowed the 16 year old down as he copped third in the first molO and first in the second. Mark Howell, on a Yamaha, won the first molO, but ended up sixth in the second for third overall behind a consistent David Hopwood.
