Furuike flies in Hawaii IT By Ace Reporter OAHU, HI, AUG. 12 lace' "Kid Sideways" Furuike, the wonderkid of Kaneoho, continued bis rewrite of the record books tonight at Tommy Vejos' Friday ni~ht TT. He completed his blitzkreig of Hawaiian racing by notching his first Expert win on the TT track, defeating 125cc champion Mike McGuire. Furuike demolished the Mini, ovice and Amateur classes on his 14-month Mini lO Expert romp. McGuire, who has only been defeated twice this year in addition to carrying the number one plate, was no match for Furuike's power to weight ratio and billiardball bermshots. Furuike had already trophied in very Expert event he had entered, but tonight he set hi's sights on the .wi n , grabbed the start and held off McGuire and company in the first molO. McGuire set out to avenge the record in the econd molO, but Furuike pinged off the in field berms twO gears higher than anyone and reeled in the leaders lO take the overall. Mike Metzger and Steve Trinies sha'red the same Yamaha 250 to take first overall in the Novice and Amateur classes. Metzger took both 250cc Novice molOS while leading a train of Will Burl, Tomi Yamada and Larry Gomez. That train claimed the second through fourth overall trophieS'. The track was prepared with a minimum of water at the request of the riders, who opted [or the powerslide-outside option that the dry track offered. Blayne Soma had used the outside lO win the 125cc Support class, but he met his match in Trinies:Trinies took the win over Soma, Dean Freitas and Vincent Chong. Brent Kuniyoshi took command of the second Open support molO lO claim the overall. Brent was so stoked that he blazed to second place in the last Open Expert molO.
