By far the most exciting motos of the evening took place in the 250cc Prodivision. Moto one saw the quartet of Craig Christian, Theo Bernhard, johnny Gardner and Rick DeLong battle for eight hard laps before determining that Gardner was to best the lot. The war was continued in moto two until DeLong and Bernhard carne off and allowed Christian and Gardner to cruise in for first and second, respectively. All who watched were impressed with the comeback efforts of Rick DeLong, who just recently shed his leg cast. Terry Bostard returned to do battle at Baylands following his weeks away to contest the NMA Nationals in Oklahoma and AMA Nationals in Tennessee. He was again back on form and one of the I!I riders putting in double-moto victories on his mean green machine in the 80cc Experts. Patterson, Strong pulverize " Bellng.ham " By CI.y Ught Photo; by Vic Ebbutt BELLINGHAM, WA, AUG. 20 After a dazzling second-place performance in last night's Oregon Sidewinders TT race, National number 59, Kirk wai t through three restarts to get his chance at leading the race for good. Randy Roose caused the first mishap, which put Bobby Walters off the edge of the track and down a IO-foot bank. Roose came back to lead the second take but was caught in another pileup, which took out Steve Aseltine, A.j. Eschwig and Dave Stering. The third and final take is where Patterson put 250ccs of Panther Yamaha to the ground and led Novices Brian McGonigal and Lance Strong. The stage was now set for a Patterson pulverization; after winning its heat and the dash, he too looked "like he would make a clean sweep of the night over the McGonigal/Strong/ Wilson/Stering slugfest. Patterson enjoyed what would be the lar~st lead of the night due to rivals Randy Green and Mickey Fay riding elsewhere and now has the 250cc Expert title wrapped up. Second went to McGonigal on his Suzuki waterpumper by edging Strong, who was riding the wheels off his 250 Honda. Fourth went to Wilson followed by Rich Hamilton and Stering. Henson doubles atBoI_ST By M.rty Gregory BOISE, 10, AUG. 16 Ricky Henson screamed his two-stroke and thumped his four-stroke Yamahas to wins in the 250 and Open Expert classes on the Owyhee Motorcyde Club's shon track. Henson, sponsored by Atkinson's Glass, was fast and £lawless as he took his nemesis, Rod Reynolds, to task in both main events. Reynolds won the 250cc heat race, with Henson running second. The main saw MXer joe Wright jump out to an early lead only to be passed on either side by Henson and Reynolds. Reynolds pushed too hard and when he tried to stick his wheel inside Henson where there wasn't room, he crashed hard on the back straight. As the race was slowed considerably while officials administered to Reynolds, a "restan-in-place" was ordered by the referee, with Reynolds relegated to last place. Henson easily stayed out in front for the remaining three laps, with joe Wright winding up second. The Open Expert main looked like a replay of the 250cc event, with Henson and Reynolds battling one another aboard their 500s. Henson held orr the determined Reynolds to scarf the bucks. An overloaded circuit caused the track lights to go out in the middle of the 250 and Open B main. It was quickly reset and no crashes resulted on the dark track, though it was no doubt more than a little scary for the racers involved. Another restart-inplace was required in this event.
