CORONA RACEWAY orthern Californi.Northern Nevede· event for the first time this season, piloted by Washington's Del Schnitzer, who has been long overdue for a win. Mike Lawrence won the Novice main in a shooLOut with Robert Horban. Schnitzer's 750Triumph was good enough to get an awesome holeshot to lead the Junior main event, with Mike Oglesbee, Jeff Harsha and Don Wilson in tow. Schnitzer was aboard the ex-Gary Davis Triumph and led up uOlil lap three when Harsha slipped past with a speedway-style pass. Harsha's lead was only to last another 20 feet when he unloaded and gave Schnitzer back the lead he had fought so hard for. Wilson moved past Oglesbee for second and Duane Gerrard did likewise LO stuff Oglesbee to fourth. Wilson was next to be sent back a spot when Gerrard grabbed a handfull of throttle on the downhill to take second behind Schnitzer, who was enjoying a secure lead that he took all the way to the checkered flag. Gerrard, Wilson, Oglesbee and Steve Pruczinski were second through fifth. Charlie Barkman's Simpson/York Hon/Beaverton Hon/Lectron/CanAm 500 was on the Expert pole position and briefly led to turn one. Mickey Fay's 500 Honda was right there to swoop it up when Barkman left a hole for the Honda speedster to use for the lead. Hurst followed suit by moving to third among early traffic and the three rode in side-by-side configuration for three laps until Hurst made a daring pass on the downhill where most shut o£(. Hurst kept the throttle tapped and took the lead over Barkman, Fay, Jeff Campbell and Thomas McCulloug-h. Campbell, who got off last after starting in row three, closed in on Fay and tile top four just kept stretching it out on the field. Californian Sal Hoffman and Kirk Strong crept into the thick of things and got around McCullough, but would get no farther as campbell wasn't about to give up his hard-earned fourth place to anybody. Hurst pulled away with Barkman in second, evenly spaced aheaa of Fay and Campbell, which was 'the story at the flag. Strong got the handle on fifth, beating McCullough, who was sixth.
