Fay rode a pairofN-D/Bel-Ray/Marushin Helmets/Bales-sponsored Hondas to stunning victories all the way to the checkered flag. To top it off, Fay posted a new track record enroute to his Open Pro win with a time of 16.98, beating his own track record of 17.00 set here in Bellingham last season. The 250cc main event had Fay on the pole position and he rather convincingly led the opening lap on his water-cooled Honda while Randy Patterson (Yam NW/Kleen Taps/Fred BoetmerlYam) pursued and rallied to within a wheelslength to challenge the factory Honda rider. The biggest surprise was 15-year-old Steve Aseltine, riding a water-cooled Yamaha for Panther RacinglYamaha of Canada.
