Northern california-Northern NevI Leading The Way With ~ American Motocross survived its best night of racing at the Santa Clara PAL track. In the l25cc Novice class, Todd Ternan had to make a comeback of sorts in the first round under the lights as he finished second to Jim McClintock, but won the overall when McClinto!=k dropped back in the late stages of the second round. Jerry Caton won both ends of Vet Ex'3.S did Bob Rivenbark, while Bob Tomschin put on a show on his Justice Bros/South Bay Suzuki. Tomschin was moving through the crowd, taKing the double jumps with ease, when he lost the front end in a lefthanded turn. EJric Hellgren led all score sheets of the Open Novice, winning big while Dan Morrison had to pass Danny Robinson on the first lap of round two for double twos over Matt Hector and Dave Serrano. Mike Minjares was the higjllight of the combined Intermediate show, nying just a little lower than the takeoHs from San Jose Municipal Airport and winning the class in froDt of Manny Orneles, while Jim Ashley was tops in the Open and Greg Pennington won the 250cc division over Glenn Harrison. Jon Nelsen led out the 250cc Pros in front Brad Bruns and held the point throughout. Bruns looked great in' second until the last go-round when he dropped to fifth, as Joey Sd\lag got the second over John Dauth. Rick Luther led, out the second round and held it for three laps until Nelson scaddled around from fourth, winning handily with Schlag once again second. Dauth took the third overall big bucks on his Vroom Honda, with Luther fourth over John S~ggau.
