S_"EiiNoAtEiiNE-....~~--~-_w--~ Pros. Flores generally wins at least one class each week at Baylands and is always the rider to watch. A two-moto performance of three points gave him 'ct th e overa II VI ory. Craig Christian took the checkers first in the 250cc Professional class with powerful assertion. His holeshot at the start was just the beginning as he lengthened his lead with every succeeding lap. The 500cc Professional class saw Jerome Heiberger take a borrowed Honda 490cc belonging to Old Timer Rich Lokke and place it in the victory circle in both his races. That same machine in the hands of owner Lokke took two more victories in the Old Timer Expert division. Results Mett Cullins took second ovel1lllet the Buckhorn enduro. (File photo.) 34 Karl's Motors, dropped three points to beat AA class winner Matt Cullins (Maico Support) by just four seconds and take his first-ever overall win. The Redding Dirt Riders hosted the event, which saw A and AA class riders competing [or Regional and Hi-Point Golden State Championship points. Behind Diaz, Cullins led AA riders Jeff Henning (Hi-Point/Discount Cycle Parts KTM) and Jeff Irwin (Hi-Point/ InterlinklJK Cycle Inn Hon) by one and two points, respectively. The AA class trio were not only close in scoring, but close at the gas pits as well; while pitting together, the three changed two flat tires and a £ront fender. Fifth overall was KTl\;I pilot and 250cc A class winner Dale Warmuth, who has been doing very well lately. Cycle Gear-sponsored Jerry Kramer (Hus) won the Old Timer class again to record his fifth first-place finish in a row. While many of the Band C class riders had a hard time with the dust, course designer Terry Rust from the RDR club made conditions somewhat more bearable by placing resets near water crossings, and scheduling only three riders on each minute. Overall B and 200cc B class winner Doug Chestnut had the most time to "drink up" at the resets, though, as he won the class by three minutes over 250cc B winner Brian Patton and second-place 200cc B rider Don Hoagland, who both scored 13. Open B class winner Ed Tobin and second 250cc h rider Roy Richard rounded out the top five with 16 points each, and Robert Lively topped the Old Timer B class with 33 points. Next year, the Buckhorn enduro will probably be moved to the site of the Trick or Treat family enduro, near Shasta Dam. This site is closer to the highway and less affected by rain and snow. One rider who probably won't need to use the Trick or Treat enduro as practice is' Overall and Open C winner Tony Godrich. Godrich scored a very respectable 16 points, which gave him a six-point margin over 200cc C class winner Tim Wilson, and 19-point margin over the 250cc C class winner Scott Mgyer. Husqvarna pilot Don Shaw finished a top of the Old Timer C class with 99 points. Results OVERALL: 1. Eddie Diaz Nem); 2. Men Cullins (Mei); 3. Jeff Henning (KTMI; 4. Jeff Irwin (Hon); 5. Pruitt hot at Baylands MX By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA, JULY 14 Night motocross at the new Baylands Raceway facility continues to' draw about 200 riders every Thursday night. The demanding course is a half-mile in length, includes two double jumps, several deep bernJs, one high-speed straight and a wide start area. Local favorite Jeannie Pruitt continued her winning way in the 60cc Mini division aboard a Suzuki and in the 80cc Mini division on a Kawasaki. The diminutive IO-year-old with pig tails flying fFOm beneath her helmet has developed into a very swift motocrosser and is expected to continue beating her male competitors as the season progresses. . In the 125cc Professional class Tony Flores utilized his track saavy and a very [ast Suzuki to overpower all the 80 MINI: 1. Jesnnie Pruill (Kow). 80 JR MINI (9-11): ,. Jennie Pruill (suz); 2. Bruns, Burgess bruise Sacto MX By "Nuclear" Neukam SACRAMENTO, CA, JULY 8 Suzuki-mounted Brad Bruns won the I25cc Pro honors while Lance Burgess roosted his Kawasaki to an overall win in 250cc competition at Sacramento Raceway's weekly Friday night stadium motocross races. Bruns moved from the back of the pack in both 125cc motos to top Yamaha-mounted Cory Cantaloupi in the first go-round and Burgess in moto two. Burgess combined a third and a second for the second overall. While Cantaloupi had the same score, he still took third overall by virtue of Burgess' higher second-moto finish. Bruns beat Burgess in the first 250cc Pro moto, but Burgess was out [or blood when the second moto flew into turn one. Bruns has a nasty reputation as a track brawler, but by the time the checkered flew in molO two it was apparent that Bruns could learn a thing or three from "Berserk" Burgess. Bruns emerged from tum one in the lead, but Burgess was breathing heavy on his rear fender. Bruns momentarily stretched his lead, but that only prompted Burges 10 roll the throttle on harder as he shot out of the turns. Soon Burgess was knocking on Bruns' door and eventually they were knocking shoulders. It got a little hairy, then a lot scary, but it sure brought the fans to their feel. Bruns eventually kissed the clay as Burgess flew to a win and the overall. Bruns remounted and finished second for second overall. Results 125 NOV: 1. Denny Allen. 80 NOV: ,. ') ] Hannah Increases UttIe Okle lead By Beverly McCrory MADERA, CA, JULY 2 The second round of the O'Neal-sponsored fifth annual Central California Championship series was again underway with a rew missing riders due to the Fourth or July weekend. This didn't stop Dan Hannah, 250cc Intermediate points leader, £rom attending tonight's race and extending his series lead. The first moto got underway with James Davis getting the holeshot. Honda-mounted Hannah was in second position with Frank Valadao in third. It didn't take Hannah long to overpower Davis in a long sweeping turn to take over rirst. Hannah soon left Davis behind with a very comfortable lead. After a rew laps, though, Hannah seemed to be tiring. He was careless in one or the turns and went oU the track, killing enough time for Davis to catch up. Davis, putting the pressure on Hannah, was just enough or a threat ror Hannah to get his second wind to outpower Davis to take rirst. Davis was second and Valadao hung on ror third. Moto two was led by Hannah followed once again by Davis. Hannah and David soon separated themselves £rom the other racers, but Davis could not match Hannah's dynamic riding and dropped back ror a distant second. The race then fell to Valadao and Pat Spark for third. Valadao and Sparks diced back and forth until the checkered flag. Hannah slowed his pace to casually take the win; Davis was second, Valadao third, followed by Sparks. • Results 50 PEE WEE: 1. Bob McPherson (Ita). 60 PEE WEE: 1. Todd O'Reer (Kew). 6OsTKJR9-l1: 1.
