Cannonsix straight atAscotTT By Maureen Lee GARDE A, CA, JULY 15 The TT program of the AMA's Pro-Am pilot series drew a larger crowd this evening and they got to see some good racing. The Dirt Diggers M.C. were the host club and their able SlaTter, Jim Connolly, using flags not lights, did -aot have one false start all evening. Curtis Cannon won himsel£ six traight moLOS in the 250 and 500cc Fateur classes. In the 250cc group, r,ith Cannon out in front, the hard racingwasgoingon between Derrick Vandenhurk, Bruce Nordstrom and Lindsay. Don Ambrose got himIf up into the fray a couple of Limes ut fell off in the esses in the second round after having a great time first round fending off Vandenhurk. Woody and Lee Lindsay, on matching KTMs put on a show in the 500cc ovice/Junior class. J 1m KeSler won overall looking great with Skip Cristy shuHling the first spot around with him...best group of the night really. Shawn Leipold grabbed the early lead in the first round of the 500cc Expert but by lap three Curtis Cannon was by him and that was the way they shook down each moLO with John Barricklow third. Don Meiner looked good in the Vets class and won it with a 1-2-1 over Bob Graves while Bill Bartels proved that you don't have to have two footpegs to ride the Ascot TT course I Mike Arthur led the 250cc Pro heat for quite a while followed by Jim Harrell. Roger Thompson and Randy Bird were moving right along through the pack and the heat ended with Roger leading, then Arthur and Randy. In the main Arthur had the lead for abouta lap but Roger Thompson got him through the esses and steamed away with the lead, repeating what he used to do racing with CMC last season at Ascot. Arthur fended off Randy Bird for a while but Bird made a successful pass lap four leaving Arthur LO fight 0[£ Jim Harrell successfully for the rest of the main. ~ . In our 71 st year, MOTORCYCLIST makes a very significant change which will be great news to the motorcycle enthusiast. Starting with our July issue, MOTORCYCLIST is 100% street in editorial content. When we started out in 1912 there were only street bikes. The streets were not always paved, but the bikes were all the same. In the 1970's, dirt bikes became a very important part of the motorcycling world, and we responded with more editoria' space for dirt bikes. MOTORCYCLIST is the first of the general-interest motorcycle publications to realize that this now very specialized marketplace demaAds very targeted editorial. Our plan is simple: In December 1982 we launched DIRT RIDER magazine to cover dirt bikes, and in July 1983 MOTORCYCLIST becomes the largest-circulation all-street publication in the country. We now serve the motorcycle enthusiast with two excellent, well-targeted magazines. No matter what your interest, we talk to you with two great books. Look for the new MOTORCYCLIST and DIRT RIDER on your newsstand. or subscribe today.
