J U N E 18-19 Su m mer has arrived in Colorado. and with the warm weather the state's motocrossers are ou t in force. Tony Gonza les and · the Sports R iders Association of Colorado held a two-day Gran Prix. a nd th e tu rn o u t wa s great. Th ere co u ld be a new star in the 125cc Amat eur class. Steve Kyle. o ne of the to p Mi ni Expert riders, took to a bigger machine. In h is first attempt o n a 125 Kawasaki. he left the rest of the pack going away . It see ms th at the bigger bike may be better suited for Kyle who to o k both hol esh o ts and the n stayed o ut fro nt for the overall. R idin g for Good Time Kawasaki in Longmont. Steve is sure to be one of the future stars of motocross. Randy Warren took advantage of a Boo Stichter mistake and captured the overall in the 250cc Expert class aboard his Rocky Mountain Honda. Warren, who has had some bad luck in rece nt weeks. rode steadily and full out to take home the biggest paycheck of the day. Stichter took the first moto bu t had problems in a turn in th e second race, a nd Warren shot by h im to reap the rewards . After falli ng, Sti chter still m an aged to ta ke a fo u rt h overall. Warren is always near the front of the pack , and th e rest of th e 250cc class kn o w well tha t h e is always p resent and th a t he has to be beaten. David Da n ko took th e seco n d spot in front o f a n ever-improving Brent Smi th . George hauls to Boyd TO win By Margaret Orr BOYD, TX, J UNE 4 J ames Harrington and Mike George made the troph y dash at Mike Kidd's weekly Friday night short track a nd TT the hottest rac e of the night tonight, The two riders battled it out a t every turn with G eorge taking th e lead out o f the fourth corner o n th e last la p to win . The win over Harrington. Kell y johnson and Greg DuVall was th e first trophy dash win for Ge orge. The 250cc Expert class was led to the halfway mark by Du Vall, who was followed by George a n d johnson. johnson slipped by George, then took the lead wi th an inside line. DuVall and George hit in a turn with George th e one on the dirt . TT excitement started with 80cc'ers Tim Kay. Bill R ichardso n and Ed Mei er a ll battli ng fo r the j u ni o r lead. It straightened around after a few laps with Me ier in the lead and p u ttin g d istance on Kay. Ri ch a rd s a nd Chad McCracken finished seco nd a nd . th ird. Novices on 250s accumulated for the largest class o f the n ig h t. George. Bria n Fleck and Dan n y Wolf all took their turns u p front while Bobby Shaw, jack Surber and Charlie Ga l ube nski battled in the pack. The Open Expert ac tion started in the heat races whe n Charlie Orr stood the fan s with a heart-stopping fron tstraight slide. In th e main , David Fisher got the holeshot, only to fall coming out of turn o ne. Gary Kidd took th e lead followed by Terry Newman with Orr in third. Orr soon passed Newman in the air and started pushing Kidd for the rest of th e ra ce. Orr passed Kidd on th e last lap but broke a chain.
