Moto two saw a three wa y struggle for th e lead develop over th e fir st fo ur laps with Smi th , Gillit, an d Joey H ardin in contention. SD, MAY 30 With the majority of riders getting Memorial Da y Monday off the day after the Gillette round of the Borderline Racing Association Motocross Seri es, actio n moved to th e J a ck pi ne G ypsies' Sturgis Raceway for the first doubleheader weekend of motocross in the Black Hills for 1983. T rac k officia l Derrek Ward treated riders to a totally revised course for the secon d time this .season, as th e track boast ed new sections of stadium-type wh oops, a new grassy-hill section , and rebuilt ju m ps throughout the circu it . Black Hills Yamaha's Todd G ikling had a field da y in both th e 125 an d 250cc Pro clas ses, as he wo n all but one of the rnotos in the two di visions, along with both overalls. Fo r th e big bore Pros, Dave Molder returned to his winning style, a nd once again took the over all for the 500s. Molder started the Open Pro class behind Kell y Olsen 's Bla ck Hills Yamaha and went into th e lead around mid-mote. but fell and took second fo r the rnoto. Perry Bicek was third. Olsen took th e second mota start as well, but he and Molder coll ided and went down . Molder wa s up first an d after new leader Bicek. Wa yne J or gen son won both mot o s bu t not wi thou t a fig h t from " Ba nzai Butch " Love. In mot a one, Butch fell severa l times, a llowin g local rid er J ohn Embry to finish second behind J or gen son. In moto two, Butch chased J or gen son a ll th e way to the flag but was un able to get by. Rex Jump "j u mped" o ut into th e lead of the 250cc Novice class, a nd won th e moto hands down . J ohn Embry sho wed th e you ngsters he still had pl enty of zip by finishing seco nd. Love took th e h ol esh ot in ro u nd two a nd quickl y put 10 seconds on th e com pe tition . Robby Peters was blazin g aro u n d th e tra ck, opening u p a 15-second lead o n J am ie Canad y in the first three laps. In n o time a t a ll Burke was in secon d a n d steadily closing in on Peter s. By th e halfway point. Burke wa s leading and p u lli ng away.
