nardlno - Ve ntura- Aubu rn - Ha main. Bast didn 't go down easy, as they raced inside and outside, using all th eir skills a n d experience. Ron Preston is back on the scene in speedwa y. He was n 't able to transfer Friday night, but did well in the match race with Dave DeTemple. In their first race, DeTemple had to la y it down shortly after the sta rt as he was blinded by mud. They restarted and Preston won, having an opportunity to show the fans his sty le. In his Scratch hea t he and Cook had a problem in turn one and Cook's helmet was run over by Preston's wheel. After a restart " Ca st Iro n " Coo k went on to win the heat. DeTemple won his Scratch heat and th e semi, bu t he had p ro blems in the ma in and finished last. Buddy " Budm a n " Robi nson ha d an excellent night. He won his Hand icap a nd Scra tch h ea ts, then went on to win th e Scratch consolation and brought home seco nd in the Handicap main. Handicap racing started out at a slo w pace with the track wet from rain, bu t in the third heat, who else wo u ld take to th e o utside and bri ng the cro wd to its feet, but Alan " Cra zy" Christian. Starting fro m the 50-yard . - li ne a nd wi th the traffic on the pole being heavy, he ra n th e outside and al most ca u gh t leader Den n is Abbott before th e checkered £lag. C hristian used th e same technique in th e Handicap semi with the sam e results. T hi s time it was Mik e Curoso who beat h im to th e checkered flag. Joh n Cook, a fter fin ishi ng seco nd in h is Handicap h ea t, turned arou nd a nd gave the cro wd a th rill in th e semi fin al as he took th e o u tside. a nd flew past the enti re pack, catch in g an d passing first-pla ce Columbo just before the ch eckered £lag. In th e H andicap m ain several rid ers had problems with th ei r bikes incl udi n g Cook, Curoso an d Gary Ford. Once again Ch ristia n wa s there, ru n n in g hard after the leader Steve Co lu m bo . As Columbo a p p roached th e finish lin e, here ca me Ch ris tian i n hi s brig ht red ST P lea th ers. Christian , a fter th e ch eckered flag , lost h is cha in on the back straightaway whi le sl ow in g do wn aft er h is victory. Second Division hea ts were won bv Tom Wa lton, Sco tt Tal kington, and Denn is Briggs. Pat Hawl ey ended up in the wa ll in h is hea t. but was unh urt. In th e main event, Tal kington was leadi n g by a wide margin , but a restart left h im in traffi c a nd in tu rn two h e go t into a ta n k-slap per , h igh sided and wa s un able to fini sh . Tom Walton, sponsored by "2 KEN -CHU: . took the win. T h e Th ird Di visio n m ain was wo n by Ro n Wi lli ams. Randy Blevins, last week 's maineven t winner, wo n hi s hea t a n d finished third in th e mai n . Ant ho n y Ell inor won th e seco nd h ea t ra ce, but did n ot far e well • inthe main .
