Speedway Pro motions kicked
off the 1983 indoor spe edway
racing season before an exci ted
National Western Arena crowd

of about 500 people. The crowd was
treated to some great speedway action,
as each year the racers seem to get
faster and better. T hi s year another
class has been added to the schedule,
the Third Division class, and these
ne w riders shou ld soon be challenging the First and Second Division
racers.
In the First Division Handicap
main, Dave P iepe r ou traced five ot her
riders to capture the main event. H e
was chased by a real charger, Rick
Steele, who too k a second, and by
brother Ken Pi eper, who placed thi rd .
T he First Division Scratch main
was a d ifferent story with Scott
Ormiston tak ing the crown, showing
an aggressive a nd da ring style. Dave
Pieper finished second in the Scratch
main with Steele taking thi rd. Orrnis-
ton took a first in four events and had
to settle for second only once.
Mark Head fought his way to first
place in the Second Division Handicap main by ou tpointing second
place rider Bill Postilio and third
p lacer Joh nnie Zweyga rdt.
The 1983 season prom ises to be a
good one with some riders coming
back from Florida wi th track time in
the Wi nter Na tionals to add to their
experience. With the Peipe r bro thers,
Orm iston, Jimmy and Dennis Troudt
a nd Bria n Hoel, not to mention a
host of ot her good riders, this should
be the most exciti ng seaso n ever for
Colorado indoor speedway raci ng.
