Hefought his way lip through the pack the first time around to try and catch Kawasaki's Paul Denis, Honda's Mike Healey and the everthreatening Mouse McCoy. Hicks ended his first round in fifth and came back in the second moto to a so~nd sec<;md behind Bader J'v.Ianneh. Wtth Denis and McCoy DNF1Og, and H~aler 12th in the second round, HI cks score was good enough for top ho~ors. Bryan Brunner of ;\rlZona claimed second place gold with a 3-4 tally and Manneh, eighth in moto one, rounded out the .top three. . When the Pros hit the stadium floor, T~am Tamm exploded out of the gate 10 all three classes and racked up triple gold. The Open Pros saw.Hon~-mounted Tamm racers MIke Tnpes and Mi~e S~oemaker set up a 1-2 com.binat~on 10 Ix;>t!t rou~ds that defied their compet~lOn. Tamm Racing struck pay dirt again in the 250cc Pro contest with Shoemaker taking a clean sweep and team mate Dean Cates. close behind for second overall. Third place gold went to Scott Sargent, recently moved up to th e Pro ra n ks and sizzling aboard a Suzuki. Throughout both motos, Danny Ashcraft battled Chuck Dalton and Nick Beltran for the J unior division win. Richard Meyers edged out Alan Gerkey and Rich Tabor to take the Gold in th e Intermed iates. When the 125cc Beginners came back to the line for their final four divisions had fought all day ' over qualifying slots. The glory and the gold finally came for Suzuki-mounted Brandon Schneider who fought his way up through the pack for command and by the end ofthe night had a six second lead over the field. John Posca, riding for Posca Dental Lab, found himself within inches of losing his position. He had to stay on the gas and fight off Todd Schaeffer. Milan Chutil and Brian Felix. When they crested the finish line jump, Schneider led the way with Posca and Schaeffer holding fast for second and third, respectively. . When the 80cc Stock Beginners blasted down the straight in their run-off heat, a grudge match quickly shaped up between Kawasaki-mounted j im m y Lewis and Da le Welsh aboard a H onda. Both Minis had dueled hot and heavy with each other through both qualifiers, finishing second and first, respectively. With the mo ment of truth now before them it was go-for-broke time. Welsh ended the night with a well-deserved second overall and Parker took third place ho~ors. . . Jtm Anderson , piloting a Honda for Skip Fordyce of Riverside, took home the h?nors ~e hard way for the O pen NoVICes.. Symer, in tum, had his sights set on the front runner, Scot Wiseman, who by sheer guts held the field at bay for the moto win. When the big bore machines came to life for th eir final a ttack, Anderson took over and was flying l He left behind Symer and Paul Schreffler in second and third.
