CAN-AMSONCMX KERACER R- Fourth overall Kent Miller. Classes 30 and 38 Classes 30 (over 30) and 38 (over 38) showed the closest racing today with the least interference from Lady Luck. In the Class 30 action, A. C. Bakken and Gary Jones took their Husky to an early three-minute lead at check one and held it through to the California finish over the Yamaha of Richard Jackson and Mark Force. Tom Mattox and Paul Eddy trailed their Yamaha another minute back at check one. The Class 30 contest picked up on the Arizona side as Jackson /Force turned the lead around by' a full six minutes at check two, onl y to have Bakken/Tones gain five of that back by the end of the loop. Lady Luck then struck the Bakken/Tones team with a flat tire on the way out of the ghost town and both the Jackson / Force team and Mattox/Eddy got by. Bakkerr /jones tra iled Mattox/Eddy by o ne minute at the fini sh a nd pl aced third in class, ninth overall. Last, and certainl y not least exciting, was the battle for top Class 38 honors. Stuntman and famed desert racer J . N . Roberts teamed up with Art Knapp aboard a Husky and worked into a one minute lead at ch eck one. over solo rider Charlie Conway (Hon ). Roberts/Knapp held their one minute lead to the California finish with Husky-mounted Dave Miller, who has won this class the last four years in a row, running alone five minutes behind. The race was far from over. Miller must have gotten the throttle stuck on the first Arizona go-around because rolling into check two, Conway had picked up one minute on the leaders, but Miller had picked u p five and all three were tied for the lead. R o ber t s/ Kn a p p stayed tied with Conway at the end of the loop as Miller dropped a minute back. The final loop was the test and Miller, who had run in third for most of the distance, wicked it on again to finish just one minute ahead of Roberts/Knapp and nine minutes ahead of Conway. Miller's fifth win in a row won 't be easily forgotten. • FOR SALE. AS IS!
