Fifty percent of the total collected is awarded to the winner of the draw and the other 50%the ATA puts into a fund to send top riders to compete . in Europe. . V.O.T.E.s' turnout for this event was excellent. Eighty entries from Bakersfield to San Diego. The loop ran clockwise around the perimeter of Indian Du nes and took only 20 minutes to complete. Every class ran three loops with a four hour time limit that was very easy to make. Section one, J un k Yard Blues. was a stadium-type section with lines for all classes. Experts and Amateurs rode up and over a '64 Dodge Dart . then crossed over the front hood to join the Novice line, which had the Novices going over some man-made obstacles, with everyone exiting with the Beginners. More than half the sections were not only set up for the riders, but also for the enjoyment of spectators. In the Expert class, Fantic rider Dwayne Walters walked away with an unreal win. His total score for the day was 17 points, 23 cleans. That was 48 points less than second place rider Mike Lauxen (Mon), who had spent the previous week working on his bike that had caught fire the week before at practice. Amateur class winner Rei ji Nakayama, a 200cc Honda rider who earlier in the '82 season started riding trials in SoCal, has become one of the top Amateur riders. We will inevitably be listening to Reiji four-stroking to the Expert class by the end of the season I Second p lace went to John Robertson (SWM), 13 points ahead of " J et" rider Scott Annand, who is beginning to climb the ladder again. First place Novice went to V.O .T.E. President Reynold Hicklen, and with this win he has decided to transfer to Amateur class. SUNNYMEAD, CA, JAN. 16 A large number of riders turned out today at DeAnza Cycle Park and p roduced some first class racing. Suzuki-mounted Tim Clark. riding for Mayflower Moving, emerged on top of an exciting 125cc Novice class after dicing with Honda of Redlands' Brad Fay, Circle City Honda's Mike Fitzgerald (Hon ) and Rincon Kawasaki 's Lance Gorton (Kaw). At the start of moto one it was Fitzgerald who stole the holeshot while rivals Clark, Fay and Gorton Iol- . lowed. By the end of the first couple, of la ps the four leaders were sti ll only inches apart. But, by the midway point, Gonon 's pace began to slow slightly, however. he stayed within striking distance of the top runners. When the white flag appeared, Fitzgerald had onl y a half bikelength lead over Clark, who had only a roost-distance advantage over Fay. Fitzgerald managed to hold onto his number one position for one more lap to take the win. Clark took second while Fay and Gonon took third and fourth. Round two was more intense than the first. By the end of lap one it was again Fitzgerald in front of the pack with a cautious lead. In second was Clark followed by Gorton and Fay. A lap later Fay had snuck by Gorton for third. The moto reached its climax on the final lap when the leader. Fitzgerald, stalled his engine while avoiding a lapped rider. This gave Clark the lead and Fay second while Fitzgerald held onto a close third. Then, a few turns later, Fay went down hard handing Fitzgerald second. Clark went on to take the win and overall ahead of Fitzgerald, Gonon and Fay. Thirteen riders lined the starting gate of the 250cc Intermediate class, and when all the action had ended arid the dust cleared it was Larry Dimmitt (Hon) who came out on top of the pack after capturing the win in each outing. Dimmitt's nearest competitor was Hang Ten's Tony Spear (Suz), who took second overall with a 2-3 outing. Third went to Suzuki . ~ ; c .: f " '( L 11: ~ (\ I Results Nobody near Norman at Perris GP By Lee Taylor PERRIS, CA.
