A big shoot-o u t was expected between Drey Dirck s a nd Carlos Serra no, but Serrano met with some tough lu ck. Not on ly was his bik e a p ro blem for h im, but a du o of H onda riders, th at co ns isted of Scott Stallard a nd Rick Nagle, a lo ng with Yamie rider Bryan Hayes, gave him a su rp risin gl y to ug h battle. After a lap, Rob Mason , in his second Expert race, put a way Eric Kirk, bu t Kessel 's downed bik e put h im at the back once aga in. T he you ng Tea m H onda rider proved to be most successfu l w i th three wins, in th e Juni or Cycle Modifi ed Experts, the 80cc Stock No vice 9-11 race and the 80cc Modified Novice 9-1I race . The most competiti ve event tha t Den sfo rd took a victor y in was th e 80cc Mod ified Novice 9-11 bou t. Davis dives to CMC MX honors By Tom Corley ORANG E, CA, DEC. 19 · The local racer s were singleminded as th ey headed out to Saddleback for th e Continental Motosports Club 's motocross . Du e to this frame o f mind, th e 125cc Juni or class was gigantic, with 34 pa rt ici pa n ts ma king it th e la rgest event. T h is ca used th e riders to stu m ble over one an other, but, when th e two mot os fini sh ed , WFO ace J ohn Davis had two fir sts for th e tallest tro p hy. Davi s fou nd th e extra large class to be difficult. Others found th eir wa y to th e start corne r first with Davis ta king poor sta rts in both mot os. Da vis a llowed o thers to make m ista kes a nd worked hi s way to the top . Mike Antcl iHe defeated Tim Whitl ock for seco nd pl a ce wh ile J eH Eary controlled fourth and led Dale Him_melreich , wh o is now riding a 125 in stead o f a 250. T rue to th e firs t mo to , Davis took off th e line in the fin al round o f rac ing in fifth. H owever, lea der J eH Ea ry dropped h is new Kaw asaki 125 on the tu rn before Webco, and all of th e top riders sla m med on the brakes.
