It was Mark Brelsford (H-D) at the
helm of the Louisville half mile
National, as he took the win over fellow Harley-Davidson rider Dave Sehl
and Rookie Gary Scott (Tri). Brelsford's younger brother Scott led all
the way en route to winning the] unior race, also on a Harley-Davidson.
The "old men" spent the day out in
front of the French round of the 500cc
World Motocross Championship Series. East German Paul Frederichs
(CZ) ended up the overall winner
with Adolp h Wei! a close second.
Americans Bob Grossi and Mark Blackwell also com peted, but both ran into
problems in the first moto, However,
both came back to score top 20 finishes in the second rnoto.
The'Penton East team of Dick Burleson, Tom Penton and Doug Wilford
won the Trade Team Trophy at the
Trask Mountain Two-Day ISDT
Qualifier. Thirty-nine riders earned
gold medals' out of the 180 starters,
including the three previously mentioned, and also Lars Larsson, Gene
Cannady, Tom Patton and Steve
Hurd. Among the bronze medalists
was On Any Sunday creator Bruce
Brown.
Three h~ndred and ninety-one riders
started the annual Cherry Creek hare
and hound, and there was a total of 46
finishers. Desert great J.N. Roberts
(Hus) was the overall winner after
racing much of the day with Utah
rider Dave Blaylock. Kerry Fowler
finished third overall and first 250ec
Expert.
Marty Tripes made one of his first
a ppearances on a Yamaha a successful one by winning the 250cc Expert
class at Corona Raceway. He defeated
Gaylon Mosier (Mai) and Chuck
Lunde (CZ).
Neal Mackel (Tri) was the overall
winner in a hillclimb at Saddleback
Park, but it was Kerry Peterson posting wins in the 125 and 500cc classes,
as well as a third in the 250cc class.
Jeff Ward won the 60cc class .
Steve Hernandez took the main event
of an indoor short track race in the
San Diego Sports Arena, followed by .
Dave Hansen (SUI) and Jim Foley
(Yam).
Ray Beck was the 250cc Expert winner
in a scrambles held at Blythe, CA. In
other action, Pat Richter won the
Open Amateur class and finished
second in the 250cc Amateurs behind
John Smith.

Ron Self (Mai) took the 500cc Expert
class in a CMC North motocross at
Livermore, CA. Running behind him
were . CZ-mounted Randy Lackey
(Brad's older brother) and Ron Huffman,
A match race at the Carlsbad Raceway drag strip pitted the Top Fuel
machines of Boris Murray and Bill
Chambers against each other in a
three-race contest. Murray's twinengine Triumph turned in ninesecond runs each time to best Chambers' 96-cubic-inch Harley, which
