T X, MAY 30 Texas motocrossers got togeth- : er at Conroe Motocross Park for a special Memori al· Day race with the results being some exciting ac tion a nd lots of fun. As th e day wore on. th e track became rough and dusty as the infamous Conroe killer sand whoops took their toll on rider endurance and skill. The most exciting race of the day wa s in th e 250cc Expert class. Paul York and Mike Capt battled wh eel to wheel for two action-packed motos. Capt pulled th e holeshot in both motos o n his -new McAllen H ondasponsored rocketship a nd led off and on as th e lead ch a nged back and forth . York finished ahead by a narrow margin. R ichard Stelter showed h e wa s not over th e hill by roosting to an overwh elming win in th e O ver 38 class and finish ing a close seco nd in th e Over 30 class to Bob Clark. Results 250 EX: 1. Orr brothers dominate Ross Downs flat track By Bob Bagwell COLLEYVILLE, TX, MAY 29 Billy and Charlie Orr dominated the races at Texas' hot spot of flat track racing, at least for the Memorial Day'weekend. Billy was not shutting off for th e corners ; brother Charlie could not catch him. James Harrin gton and Terry Pevey's rider Kenny Tolbert had to watch h im d isappear in the sunset. T he 50cc riders, Scott Kelly a nd Steven Cassal, put on a show, pa ssing each other back an d forth every lap with Kelly winning by in ch es. These heavyweights had th e fans tearing up the grandstand. The 60cc ra ce wa s the same thing with Clayton Hull an d Greg Teague fighting to th e finish. Todd Haas, john Gladwell and Tubby Dotson aga in h ad th e fans yelling for more in th e 250cc Am ateur main. Bro wn muscled his Can-Am a ro u nd th e insid e of Conway to fill second spo t. H e .. now began to apply pressure on Glaser by trying to p ass in every conceivable place on th e trac k, but to n o ava il as h e sa m p led the soil and did not man age to get going again until seven riders slipped past him. Conway. now in seco nd , began chipping away a t Glaser's lead. which by now wa s not very large. By the last turn Conway was on Glaser 's rea r tire. bu t there was n o time left for tact ics as Glaser darted past the flagman followed by Conway , Fa rm er and Brown, who had fou gh t his wa y to fourth spo t fro m eighth.
