Namestake Eugene MX championship wins By Clay Light EUGENE, OR, MAY 16 Loch Names nailed down both moto wins today in the 250cc Pro class at Emerald Racing Association's championship race in Eugene. A huge award ceremony was held, and eight riders came out with fivefoot trophies for being high point winners for the 1981-1982 season. The highest award of the year goes to a rider who is involved with track operations, among other things. It is given out in honor of Jeff Cairnes, an excellent Pro who was killed coming back from Nationals in California a few years back. The award was given out by Jeff's father, Ted, to winner Victor Chuch. • A Pro contest was gearing up on the line as soon as the last 125cc rider was off the track. It was 250cc Pro Skeet Hise (Eastside Kaw) leading through the dusty Choppy whoops with Steve Williams (Herb's/Yam support), Rodney Keller (A· I Cycles/ KTM USA) and Loch Names (Eugene Suz) holding down the top positions with lone 125cc Pro Wayne Church (JT Racing/Kaw) following. wnn. ams took over before the completion of a lap for the lead with Names into second after Hise experienced suspension woes and dropped back, also letting Keller by. The I25ccIntermediates were combined with the Pros. and Rick Gunderson (Yam) and Dwayne Taylor (Eugene Hon) brought up the front with Larry Brumwell (Yam) and Lonny Sayles (Yam) hot in the run· ning. Up front in the Pro battle, it was Names who got around Williams for the lead and poured it on all the way to the checkered flag with Williams holding off a "shiftless" Keller and Hise. Church soloed in fifth for the I 25ccPro win, and Taylor got around Gunderson for the Intermediate win. The second moto was another story. Names nailed down the start over southern Oregon speedsters Williams, Keller, Church and Hise. Williams began a charge that took him by Names but only briefly as Names, who has had a six month layoff (until yesterday at Roseburg) got back by with a kamikazi pass that had many of the hundreds of spectators on hand shudder. Names held on to his 16second lead to take the moto win for a double rnoto blitz with Keller getting around Williams for second. It's hard to say what another lap would have done; Keller may have pulled it off, but time ran out for the newly signed KTM USA rider. Keller took second place money with a 3-2 tally and Williams third (2-3). The high point awards were given out to the following riders who must be mentioned for their outstanding performance during the season.
