OC'R nightMX By Steven Crosby IRVINE, CA, MAY 6 This particular Thursday nigh t saw several familiar faces make their first appearanc e of th e .sea son at the Orange Co u nty Intern at ion al Raceway. Steve Rh yan, Don Griewe a nd Rich Co llins joined the reg ulars in the 250cc Pro wars. Rhyan 's Honda took the overall win with a 1-2 tally. In th e 125cc Pro ra nks, Randy Skinner was the sur vivor for the victory. And in a large turno ut of Open bikes, Dave Eropkin took home th e largest ch un k of cash. When th e gat e dropped for th e first moto of 125cc Pro , the race was abo u t over excep t for th e win ner 's tim e. Kawasaki rider T racy Meeks took th e holeshot with Ch ris H einrich and Randy Skinner trai ling. T he or der never changed, and the lead er was never cha llenged. Between motos Hei nric h discovered h is bike was wasted a nd borrow ed a not her mach ine for the second mo to. Tha t didn 't last long either. T wo laps into the second moto, H einrich had to pull up for qu ick repa irs. In th e meantim e, Meeks was pulling awa y wh en his motor seized, and that put him out for th e nigh t. Skinner inherited the lead through no fault of h is own. H einrich, meanwhile, was back in the race but so far down that he had no chance to ca tch Skinner. Skinner rode very conserva tively a nd ended up with the first overall with a 3-1 score. In 250cc Pro, Ceet Honda rider Jim Brodie grabbed th e . holeshot with Steve Rh yan seco nd . Brodie held everyo ne off for fou r laps. Then Rh ya n mad e a sharp move to take the lead . That broke Brodi e's concen tration , and in stantl y he was in fifth. R ich Collins was in seco nd at th e halfwa y point with Griewe third and Andy Guth fourth . Don Griewe' s Suzuki was making the most noise on the track , having moved up from fifth aro und Guth a nd Brodie. With the wh ite flag out, Griewe set up Col lins in one corner , pulled up even in the next.and passed him in another. Rhyan took the win , wi th Griewe and Collins following. In the secon d mot o, Coll ins was the leader at the end of the first lap with G ut h a clos e seco nd on h is Honda. Collins crashed on the secon d lap, turni ng the lead over to Guth. . Grie we was now second but hurting from a cras h o n his Open bike. Bro die was thi rd with Rhyan pressu ring him agai n . Rh yan moved to th ird o n th e sixt h lap th en pa ssed Griewe a lap la ter. In the meantime, Gu th was holdin g off all challe nge rs.
