Though the fourth rider in the class, Darin Baldersto n , never got into the first place spot, his consistent riding style allowed him to hold his own as he was greeted at the finish li ne with second place. Canyon 's nex t race will be Friday night, May 14. finish third behind Rutherford and Bone. In Mini Novice action, Craig Canoy took the early lead with a lot of pressure from Bart Pitts. Canoy held him of! for several laps, but Pitts took th e lead halfway through the rnoto. Scott Brodie began the rnoto in third but fell back a spot when Jeff Clifton caught him in the earl y going. Pitts was first to the checkered with Canoy, Clifton and Brodie beh ind. In th e second moto, Pitts was gone from the drop of the gate and stayed in front for his third win in as many weeks. OC'R night MX By Steven Crosby IR VINE, CA, APR. 29 It's been a busy year so far at Orange County International Racewa y, and tonight was no exception. Bu t the congestion in the pi ts was relieved a bit by parking the cars of specta tors in a separa te area from riders. This made it easier for everyone to get around. Two familiar faces won 125 and 250cc Pro. Todd Peterson no tched up another win under the ligh ts in 250, and Tracy Meeks put his Kawasaki into the 125cc winner's circle. And a new face to OCIR , Bill Keefe, powered his Pro Circuit Husky to the Open Pro win. In Mini action, the Expert and Intermediate classes left on the same row. In the first rnoto, the first start was red-nagged as several riders piled up in the tricky first turn. That pileup knocked Glenn Tucker out of the action for the night. The restart saw Wade Bone put his R ustan Yamaha into the lead with Expert Tim R ut herford right behind. The two quickly pulled away from the pack but not from each other. R ut herford finally wore down Bone and took the lead in the tricky stu tter bumps. Bone had the outside line goi ng into the stutter bum ps, bu t Ru th erford had tuc ked himself into th e inside and slowly squeezed off Bone's line un til he had a wheel in fro n t and then was gone. In th e meantim e, Tommy Combs a nd G reg T rac hy were ba ttlin g for th ird. But Trachy cras hed, and Combs rod e to a steady third place finish. In the second moto it was Ruth erford 's Kawasaki from the gre en flag with Bone stuck chasing him . T rach y sta r ted o ut in third but went do wn a nd DNF. Ask the rider who wears onel Walton wallops CMCAscot TT By Maureen Lee GARDENA, CA, APR. 29 The second week of the Continental Mote-sports Club's Ascot TT scrambles lacked a bit in attendance and sparkle • since it was a date right in the middle of all the Nationals, but still the riders had so me fun. On e class in particular seemed to be trying to liven up the proceedings with falling off at regular intervals, but no one was hurt. One of the more spectacular getoffs was in the second round of the combined 250cc Intermed ia te/ J un ior race. Lee Lindsay on a Ka wasaki had won the first moto over Jim Stu and Orlando Lambay when he came off after landing from the jump. He got himself together again and went on, although his bike was minus some glass. The Vets a nd the Old Timers were all lumped together and appeared to be enjoying th emselves. Bill Fu lton, who can get a strang lehold on that group wh en he's goi ng good, ended up first J unior but not overall. That effort, if it had been score d th at way wou ld have gone to J erry Peters and his BSA.
