- Northern California-Northern NevacIa-Or8gon-W_" ingto~lcI8ho-Utah-Alaska-( Smith takes two at Marysville MX By Ramie Sexton MARYSVILLE, CA, MAR. 21 Four hundred twenty-two rnotocrossers were on hand to do battle on Marysville's rough sand track this weekend, an d the weather cooperated beautifully with sp r ing-Iike co nd irio ns. The-old water truck sat idle all day, after doing its thing the day before, and the track was in perfect condition for today's mota-madness. The new women's club, Moto-X Faxes, made this their first club ride, and 18 women did it in the dirt, Jeanie Morgan (Hon) was the overall winner on h er new red Honda. Jeanie scored an easy runaway win in the first moto b u t wasn ' t quite up to th e pace of Debbie J a m erso n in the next go around a nd had to settle for second . Jeanie also won the drawing fora free pair of Hi-Point MX boots. In I 25cc Expert mota one, R odn ey Smith (Su z) showed the crowd how he ea rned his number one plate. Rodney got off to a bad start, and finding himself in nimh place at the end of lap one, had to work his way through th e pack on the much chan ge d and rough, sandy track. At the en d of the first round. h e had to sett le for second behind Dana Waxham (Suz). Waxham hel d the lead nearly th e whole race, once losing it to Brad Harrison for tw o laps but th en regaining co n tro l for the check ers . In the seco n d mota. it was a d ifferent story with Smith going to the front and running away from everyo ne, lea ving Waxham in second to co n ten d with Robbie Hadlock. Smith ca m e ba ck again in the250cc class to beat out Ro b bie Hadlock (Su z) for the first mota win as well as th e ov erall. Allen Berluti, now riding a pair of support H ond as a nd doing ver y well, was sidelined on the first lap of moto one after collidi ng with Ji mmy Ro be rt so n , lea vin g Robertson with a cra cked foo t bone and Berluti with badly mangled fingers. The National Motorcycle Patrol evidently did a good patch job on Berluri. as h e carne back for the win in m ota two. passing early leader Smith on the second lap and gassing it to the finish. Jerome H eiberger (Ma i ) put together two first-place finishes to win the Open Expert class a h ead of Jim Inglebright(Mai ). In mota one. Andy Tudor led the first four laps before being passed by Heiberger then Randy Lash. Lash made a n outstanding charge from n ear the back of the 20rider field to finish in second place but DNF the second mota. Heiberger grabbed the holeshot in the second go 'round and was gone. Ingl ebright passed Jay Heying for seco nd a nd Steve Coffey (Mai) came from mid-pack for third in the mota and third ove ra ll. Racing action will return to Marysvi lle on April 18.
