I I Yamaha Motor Corporation ace Johner Kight pulled jack ra bbit starts out of th e ga te and proceeded to rack up a pair of 125cc Pro win s at Ca liforn ia Racing Club's Saddleba ck motocross. In the first m ot o, Kigh t had to fight for h is lead. He fou nd Kaw a sakimoun ted Randy Wi ckword gra bbing th e hol eshot and Ma rk Denn in g (Suz) brea th in g down h is jersey. Push in g hard. Kight took command and proceeded to fight a ragi ng pack down to th e wire. Denn ing wa s relentless. a nd a classic Yamaha-Suzu ki co nfro nta tion took form. By rn oto 's end. Kight and Denning sailed across th e line in first a nd second. respectively. leavin g in thei r wak e a battle for th ird between Carroll Ri cha rdson and Don T uck with Ri chardson hangin g to th ird .
