By Ramie Sexton
MARYSVILLE, CA, MAR. 21
Four hundred twenty-two rnotocrossers were on hand to do
battle on Marysville's rough
sand track this weekend, an d
the weather cooperated beautifully
with sp r ing-Iike co nd irio ns. The-old
water truck sat idle all day, after
doing its thing the day before, and
the track was in perfect condition for
today's mota-madness.
The new women's club, Moto-X
Faxes, made this their first club ride,
and 18 women did it in the dirt, Jeanie Morgan (Hon) was the overall
winner on h er new red Honda. Jeanie
scored an easy runaway win in the
first moto b u t wasn ' t quite up to th e
pace of Debbie J a m erso n in the next
go around a nd had to settle for second .
Jeanie also won the drawing fora free
pair of Hi-Point MX boots.
In I 25cc Expert mota one, R odn ey
Smith (Su z) showed the crowd how
he ea rned his number one plate.
Rodney got off to a bad start, and
finding himself in nimh place at the
end of lap one, had to work his way
through th e pack on the much
chan ge d and rough, sandy track. At
the en d of the first round. h e had to
sett le for second behind Dana Waxham (Suz). Waxham hel d the lead
nearly th e whole race, once losing it
to Brad Harrison for tw o laps but
th en regaining co n tro l for the
check ers .
In the seco n d mota. it was a d ifferent story with Smith going to the
front and running away from everyo ne, lea ving Waxham in second to
co n ten d with Robbie Hadlock.
Smith ca m e ba ck again in the250cc
class to beat out Ro b bie Hadlock
(Su z) for the first mota win as well as
th e ov erall. Allen Berluti, now riding
a pair of support H ond as a nd doing
ver y well, was sidelined on the first
lap of moto one after collidi ng with
Ji mmy Ro be rt so n , lea vin g Robertson with a cra cked foo t bone and Berluti with badly mangled fingers.
The National Motorcycle Patrol
evidently did a good patch job on
Berluri. as h e carne back for the win
in m ota two. passing early leader
Smith on the second lap and gassing
it to the finish.
Jerome H eiberger (Ma i ) put together two first-place finishes to win
the Open Expert class a h ead of Jim
Inglebright(Mai ). In mota one. Andy
Tudor led the first four laps before
being passed by Heiberger then Randy
Lash. Lash made a n outstanding
charge from n ear the back of the 20rider field to finish in second place
but DNF the second mota.
Heiberger grabbed the holeshot in
the second go 'round and was gone.
Ingl ebright passed Jay Heying for
