Murra y an d Prieur started di cing for second fro m the start. Pr ieu r passed Murray on th e down hill of th e first lap , but was repassed o n th e next lap going over the ledge. Hopwood moved in to th ird when Prieur slid ou t a nd dropped 10 six th behind Don Turk. When Pri eur fell he su ffered unknown mechanical troub le an d had to pull off later. Hopwood moved u p to second when Murray fell o n th e fo urth la p a n d dro pped to seventh . Tethert on was the nex t rider to go do wn in the m ud , but he moved back up to fourth and Scott Sargent wen t into fifth wh en Joe Herrihew at e it on lap 10. Tripes rode easily fro m wire 10 wire for the win over Hopwood , T urk, Tetherton a n d Sargent. In th e second rn oto it was Hopwood o u t in front aft er lap one .
