N S-th Expert Tim Holt , riding on his new wat er-cooled Yamaha 250 , put it to the test and it proved to be a real winner. Ho lt grabbed firsts in motos one and two. Bob Berdyck battled his way into the second spot on la p five and stayed there for second place. Crossing th e finish line with third place was " Blind" Bob De Miranda. The second mota found De Miranda gassing it up even more and taking second while Bob Berdyck took thi rd. AmateurBo Ingram took the lead for one lap then Bob Jones had his go at it for six laps. Bo regained his lead and won. Pete Gutierrez moved in with second and Jim Cooke put his Honda into third place. Gordon Mathieu finished off with fourth place. Tim Holt ride high at DeAnza By Bob A lloy SUNNYMEAD , CA ,JAN . 51 Dick Mosley of the Masters class started things off right on a new 490 Yamaha sponsored by Bellflower Yamaha. Mosley showed how terrfic this machine is by taking the lead in both motos along with both first place wins. Ed Michetti also did some power riding and took a well -deserved second place. th_ N Benavidez tops 250cc Pros at Saturday Saddleback By Terry Whytal ORANG E, CA , FEB . 6 Yamaha support rider Juan "Burrito" Benavidez powered to a 2·1 score and first overall at this week 's Saddleback Saturda y Motocross . Canadian Suzuki rider R oss Ped ers en topped the first moto but DNF th e seco nd, leaving Benavidez with a sa fe lead and th e top sha re of th e purse money. Su zuki-mounted Andy Guth picked up th e second pl ace money by finish ing nea r the front in each moto , while oth er rider s had p roblems th at d ropped th em from co m pe ti tive p osition s i n o ne o f th e tw o races. C hap py Blose charged his Suzuki 10 second place in ro u nd tw o a nd ea rned th ird overall for th e effort ahead of Yamaha rider Mike Monaghan. Bill Keefe easi ly handled th e Open Pro race, putting h is Husk y well in from o f the p ack ea r ly i n each moto. Dal e wa s 15 seconds a head of H oenshell in round two when h is Suzuki's rear tire went Ilat. Yamaha rider Dennis Hulen picked u p second behind Hoensh ell while Suzuki-mount ed P at O 'Donnel claimed third as Dal e dropped to fourth. Suzuki rider Kar en L eitinger won the Women 's Expert race with two perfect m otos. Honda-mounted Gal e Webb sta yed close in th e runner-up position to take seco nd ov erall and Yamaha rider N atalie Allen picked up third. KTM rider Rick Watson and Suzuki pilot Bert Wehr battled for the number two slot. Wat· so n bested Wehr in th e fir st moto but Wehr returned th e favor in round two to ea rn second ov erall honors wi th Watson taking third and Suzuki rider jody Weisel placed fourth. MASTERS : 1. Novice Howard Zimmerman took the holeshot and was the best one out there , for three laps, until he went down. That gave the advantage to Dick Fettel who knew just what to do . He took his lead to the winning line first. Dick Doyle did some fast moving and came up with second while Blodgette took th ird. In moto two Blodgette reversed things a bit and dominated the action and as a result he took the big win . Dick Doyle took second place honors while Dick Fettel followed with a smooth third place. There was beautiful, summerlike weather at DeAnza and 29 Old Timers got together for another blasting good time. f ••••• A Results Ingram started the second mota with the holeshot and dominated things for awhile. Cooke found a way through and went in to win . Gutierrez battled and picked up another second place.
