Oklahoma's Hoenshell gives riding lessons at CRCDunesMX By Tom Corley VALENCIA , CA , FEB. 7 New talent Andy Nelinger returned to the 125cc Pro class, after three months away due to a fractured toe and battled with 34 Oklahoma hotshoe Clay Hoenshell. Nelinger grabbed the holeshot in both motos, but mechanical problems and fatigue let Hoenshell work by to take a perfect 1-1 tally and win the I25cc Pro money in California Rac ing Club motocross held on the Dunes.Stadium track. Hoenshell has won three I25cc Expert races at three different tracks in two weeks. Nelinger led the first mota for a good six laps till the fork seals on his Suzuki blew out. On th e other hand, Hoenshell's Yamaha had no apparent problem and he took over the lead . Nelinger was able to maintain second ah ead of Randy Commons and Jim Simons . "I'm ou t of shape, with my foot I couldn 't run!" remarked Nelinger before th e second mota. Andy hooked the holeshot once more but after two laps he started to fade. Hoenshell was once again given a perfect opportunity to take over the lead position. Doug Gental led Jim Simons, Zoli Meszaros, Pat O'Donnell and Andy Nelinge r through the checkered. Overall it was Hoenshell with the win , Simons took second and Nelinger with the third place cash . The two fastest I25cc Intermediate riders proved to be Rich Truchinski and SCOlt Morrison. Truchinski won the first mota ahead of Morriso n and Kenny Guyett. Havoc occu rred in the final mota when th e riders crowded into the first tum . Several of th em crashed and were the n run into. Som e had to bank off the wall to avoid th e spill and those were the riders who took the lead positions . Truchinski fell and finished 18th . Morrison had it made with the first moto leaderout of the way. Tom Stout pursued Morrison the whole time and took his chances trying to pass . His Yamaha had a string of banners wrapped around the rear wheel. Overall it was Morrison, Stout and Richie james, David Antillon swept the 125cc Novice race. Antillon defeated form er Mini rider Joe Clancy and Todd Carmody in the first mota. Paul Donnelly took 10th in the first race but surprised everyone in the final race. He was leading for some time till he went down on one of th e stadium jum ps. Antillon took over the lead and was followed by Carmody and Clancy. On the trophy list it was Antillon. Carmody and Joe Cla ncy. Eric Casas was involved in the 125cc Beginner final in last week's sta dium race . Nothing stopped Casas today as he took the overall win in th e division two event. In the first moto Dan Manohar of Cycle Products West grabbed the lead over Casas. Eric had the lead in the final moto while Manohar had to trail.
