New talent Andy Nelinger returned to the 125cc Pro class,
after three months away due to
a fractured toe and battled with
34
Oklahoma hotshoe Clay Hoenshell.
Nelinger grabbed the holeshot in both
motos, but mechanical problems and
fatigue let Hoenshell work by to take a
perfect 1-1 tally and win the I25cc Pro
money in California Rac ing Club
motocross held on the Dunes.Stadium
track.
Hoenshell has won three I25cc
Expert races at three different tracks
in two weeks. Nelinger led the first
mota for a good six laps till the fork
seals on his Suzuki blew out. On th e
other hand, Hoenshell's Yamaha had
no apparent problem and he took over
the lead . Nelinger was able to
maintain second ah ead of Randy
Commons and Jim Simons .
"I'm ou t of shape, with my foot I
couldn 't run!" remarked Nelinger
before th e second mota. Andy hooked
the holeshot once more but after two
laps he started to fade. Hoenshell was
once again given a perfect opportunity
to take over the lead position.
Doug Gental led Jim Simons, Zoli
Meszaros, Pat O'Donnell and Andy
Nelinge r through the checkered.
Overall it was Hoenshell with the win ,
Simons took second and Nelinger with
the third place cash .
The two fastest I25cc Intermediate
riders proved to be Rich Truchinski
and SCOlt Morrison. Truchinski won
the first mota ahead of Morriso n and
Kenny Guyett. Havoc occu rred in the
final mota when th e riders crowded
into the first tum . Several of th em
crashed and were the n run into. Som e
had to bank off the wall to avoid th e
spill and those were the riders who
took the lead positions . Truchinski fell
and finished 18th . Morrison had it
made with the first moto leaderout of
the way.
Tom Stout pursued Morrison the
whole time and took his chances trying
to pass . His Yamaha had a string of
banners wrapped around the rear
wheel.
Overall it was Morrison, Stout and
Richie james,
David Antillon swept the 125cc
Novice race. Antillon defeated form er
Mini rider Joe Clancy and Todd
Carmody in the first mota. Paul
Donnelly took 10th in the first race but
surprised everyone in the final race.
He was leading for some time till he
went down on one of th e stadium
jum ps.
Antillon took over the lead and was
followed by Carmody and Clancy. On
the trophy list it was Antillon.
Carmody and Joe Cla ncy.
Eric Casas was involved in the 125cc
Beginner final in last week's sta dium
race . Nothing stopped Casas today as
he took the overall win in th e division
two event. In the first moto Dan
Manohar of Cycle Products West
grabbed the lead over Casas. Eric had
the lead in the final moto while
Manohar had to trail. Denny Purcell
aboard his new Kawasaki was in third
till he slid out on a comer and Rick
Jordan took over.
