pace, and Lec hien and Chandler dueled for second. Chandler was finally forced to let the young Yamaha rider slip away as his clutch began slipping, and Chandler was forced to ride carefully in order to finish . O 'Mara took the overall win followed by Lechien, Chandler, Dubach, Turner and Schlegel. 250cc Pro Incredible , dazzling and exciting were all words used to describe the first 250cc moto . Honda's Donnie Hansen was first out of the gate but Yamaha rider Bob Hannah glued himself on Hansen's rear fender with teammate Broc Glover running third ahead of Suzuki-mounted Robert Reisinger. Before the first lap was over, Glover had burst past Hannah and Hansen to grab the lead, and Suzuki teamster George Holland was up to fourth , O n lap two , Holland beserked past Hannah and Hansen and made a drive on Glover tha t fell just short. H ansen quickly repassed Holland , an d on the next la p Hansen flew past Glover on the downhill to regain the lead. The order was now Hansen, Glover, Holland , Hannah, Honda rider Larry Wosick , Yamaha rider RiekJohnson and Honda's Jim Gibson. The top seven riders were less than four seconds a part! In the next few laps , Hannah passed Holland and Glover and pressured Hansen for the lead. Johnson found five extra horsepower lurking inside his Yamaha's motor and beserked past Wosick, Holland, Glover and finally Hannah in less than two laps! Then on the downhill , he blew past Hansen and powered away with the win . At the checkers, it was Johnson , Hansen , Hannah, Suzuki star Warren Reid who worked up from mid -pack with the fastest lap times on the track, Wosiek, Holland, Gibson Glover and Honda riderJim Tarantino. ' Wosick stole the holeshot as moto two thundered onto the track followed by Hansen. Glover and Johnson. Yamaha rider Juan Benavidez and Reid were both left on the ground halfway through turn one, b ut both remounted and began charging through the pack. Wosie k hel d off Glover for three la ps before the works Yamaha powered past. Wosick stay ed with Glover and looked for a place to pass. "I had it all figu red where I could pass him ," shrugged Wosick later," but I wanted to wait till the last lap so he wouldn't have time to repass. I didn't know Gibson was so close ." Gibson had moved into third after Hansen and H annah had both fallen, and J ohnso n's bike became stuck in third . He reeled in the leaders and passed Wosiek in the closing laps. Gibson made several wild attempts to pass Glover, but the 500cc National Champ kept the door shut, and Gibson finished second ahead of Wosick , Johnson and Hansen. Reid finished an amazing sixth, once again closing on the leaders with the fastest lap times of the day. The overall win went to Johnson with Hansen taking second and moving into the series points lead. Wosick picked up third, Glover fourth, Gibson fifth, Reid sixth.
