Western hotline Hayes and Roger Jones put in resp ectab le second and third place rides in mota two . In 125cc action , Bob by Blose did it again , while second place Kawasa ki rider Mark Meredith discovered the true meaning of "mean green machine ." He had to pull over to release his boot saver fro m t he back wheel a nd suspe nsion of his bike. Meredith lost only on e position , but easily reg ained it. Results Open Pros really gas it at Saddleback. Steve Banning demonstrates. 34 eig hth overall spot. Dennis T urner. also on a 250cc. was running ninth . Mike J on es. Steve Rerny and Brad Miller had a good race going in the 125cc class runni ng l Sth , 14th and 15th avera I. At the finis h Dean Stockwell easily took th e win followed by J ohn Kea rney. The battling I 25s' of Steve Rem y and MikeJones ca me nex t. R ick Burns ide got the 250cc honors, wh ile Scott Bu lla rd finished seco nd. John Perry took th e O ver 30 class fin ishing seventh overall. J ay East led the J u nior Pros from start to finish on his O pe n bike. He was followed in by Jeff Conli n. T he 250cc lead bo unced around between Dave W ent z, Rob ert Bowers and AI Rod riguez with Went z co mi ng out on top follo wed by Bowers and Tracy Walters. The 125s ran in the sa me order t hro ugho ut th e race . Randy Fleish er took the win followed by Mark Kleve and Fread Hea cock . An d y Poll och got th e Cl ass 30 honors. The Pros lined up and Larry . Roeseler got th e proverbial holeshot a boa rd a new 490 Yamaha . Roeselser was followed by Chuck Stearns (Han ). Mike Sixb ery grabbed the 250cc lead on his Yamaha pursued byJeff Kaplan (Han) and Cliff Thomas (Yam ). Mike Baker put his new Yamaha ' 125 out front of the riddlers ahead of Bill Mattox on another '82 Yamaha . Coming into the pits on lap one Roeseler had a slight lead over Bruce Ogilvie who was riding like a man possessed. Off a jump hefore the pits Roeseler had a 10 foot lead but Ogilvie had a better line through the bumps and slipped by. . On the sweeping tum in front of the pits Roeseler regained the lead and was first through home check. Stearns was next through followed by Dan Sm ith, Troy Lee , Bill . Tarling, Dan Ashcraft and Don Griewe . First 250cc was Mike Sixbery in 18th overall . First 125s were Mike Baker and Mattox. La p two looked like a rerun exce pt for Mike Sixbery who had picked off nine Open bikes. . Few people can say th ey ride in the same league as Larry Roeseler but Bruce Ogilvie is one who can . Roese ler was aboard a state-of-the- art 490 a nd Ogilvie was riding the same IT465 that he rode in th e ISDE . On lap three Ogil vie put his bike about five seconds ahead of Roeseler . Ogilvie was pushing his IT to th e limi t and it fail ed him when it d eveloped a large head gasket leak. "T h a ts what happens when you ride old s--t. " Ogilvie said later. . Roeseler moved into th e lead with a 10 seconds on Stearns. Roeseler p itt ed and Stearns led until h is pit on the next lap . Meanwhile Sixbery moved up into fourth over all. From that point the event dragged with the only changes happening when the riders broke something. At the finish Roeseler had the overa ll follo wed by Stearns and Mike Asbury. Sixberv took the 250cc class and fourth overali. Bak er had the 125s beat and took l l th overall. Kent Pfeiffer finished second 125cc and Dave Miller took th e Class 38 win . Rodgers Roosts ~em at DeAnza MX By Kit Palmer 8 10se brothers sweep Experts at CanyonMX By Pam Hardin PHOENIX , AZ , DEC . 27 It 's not unusual' for the Blose brothers to win at Canyon , or just about anywhere they go. They put together four moto wins to take both Expert classes . Both 125 and 250cc Experts took off in mota one with Chappy Blose grabbing an early lead with three other 250cc Pros; Bryan Hayes, Robert King and Tim Richardson following . Chappy's older brother Bobby, In the 125s, passed Mark Meredith to take the lead. Chappy lengthened his lead to eight seconds by the sixth lap. Robert King held a solid second , while Tim Richardson and Jay Perkins battled it out for third, After taking th ird in mota one , Richardson was no-show for mota number two. Jay Perkins pulled the hole-shot , but Chappy was close behind. Whenever Chappy is behind , you really have to crank it up to stay ahead. Getting squirrelly a t th e bottom of Suicide Hill is, well , suicide. But you won 't be dead for long if you really want to win . and Chappy ob viousl y did. Aft er losing every possib le posit ion and ending up last , Chappy got tired of reading the back of jerseys and methodically began to pass and too k the lead. After colliding in the first mota and getting mediocore placings, Bryan SUNNYMEAD, CA, DEC . 27 New Kawa saki ride r R ick Rodgers began his debut in style by sweeping both motos in the 250cc Pro class last Sunday a t DeAnza Cycle Park . When the gate dropped for the first mota it was Rodgers who roosted into th e lead. In second was Suzukimounted Eddie Michetti and in third was Super Seer's Pat W eb er (Su z). It wasn't long before Rodgers had worked his way to a comfortable lead. The real battle rook place over second and third between Mich etti and Weber. The upper-hand went to Weber a fter he took over second on the third go -around. The fight continued for severallaps wh ile Larry Lawrence (Yam) decided to get in on some of the action , Lawrence managed to sn eak past both Michetti and Weber by lap six , but the duel over third was still in high gear. Weber's advantage over Michetti began to fade . Toward the more's end, Michetti slipped past Weber, taking over third pos ition for good. When the checkered flag appeared , Rodgers had a sizable lead insuring an easy win . Lawrence and Michetti followed in second and thi rd . It was Rodgers who rocketed into th e lead in the second mota while Rick Roark (Kaw), Chris Scott, on a 125cc Suzuki, and Michetti followed. Rodgers quickly extended his lead , lett ing th e rest of the pack battle over positions . Michetti began his upward drive by passing both Scott and Roark by th e th ird lap . But Roark nev er stopped givi ng Michetti pressure . T owa rds the end of th e mota Weber dropped back to fourth giving Michetti and Roark second and third. At this point positions remained the same.
