The Continental Moto-sport Club-sponsored race lured in many more nders (192) than last month's opener, which is proof that word gets around when there's a new and great traclt to play on. The first moto for the Open Pro class found Troy DeHerrera (Yam) taking the fint spot during lap one followed by Mike "Neezer" Marquez (Hus), Jim Zack (Yam) and Btet Stevens (Suz). This was short-lived as the seCond lap had Marquez in the. lead with DeHerrera in second place, Stevens third and Mike Wicltersham in fourth. By the halfway point, Marquez was putting five seconds OIl DeHerrera, and as the laps went by, he earned an even greater margin. It was Marquez, who "wished (he) was in better shape," in fant at the cheden, DeHerrera second, and Stevena third. In the second mOto, DeHerrera took the holeshot followed by Stevens and Marquez. Marquez got by Stevens by the second lap and didn't slow down. , He went right on to take the fint spot from DeHerrera on the third lap, with Wicltersham stealing third place from Stevena at the same time., However, DeHerrera stayed right on Marquez's rear fender. moving' by Marquez on the fifth lap to take back his lead. Marquez showed what was on his mind by passing DeHerrera once again on the sixth lap and keeping the lead (not an easy task with DeHerrera right on his tail at all times) until the last lap. As both riders took the last tum right before the checkered flag, DeHerrera slid under Marquez causing them both to fall. DeHerrera hopped on his Yamaha and finished before Marquez. but first place was given to Marquez who won the race fair and square to all who witnessed the crash and confusion. DeHerrera settled for second place, Wickenham third and Stevens fourth. The 125cc Pro riders had to deal with (like it or not) Jeff Watu (Yam) who had retired from riding oveF a year and a half ago. In the first moto, Watu took the holeshot with Riclt Ryan (Suz) and Mike Sprenger (Suz) following. Ryan snagged the lead from Watu, whose crash moved him down to fifth place bY-the halfway mark. Ryan held on to fint place until more halfway bad luck hit, and his bike apparently seized (leaky radiator to blame). Allen Silhanek (Suz) took over then, with Sprenger behind in second. Watu, in the meantime, was passing riders, two per lap. Scott Castaneda (Suz) also showed strong determination going from fifth to second by lap eight. Watu soon scooted by him ending the race with Silhanek first, Watu second and Castaneda third. . The second moto, Watu held onto first place from beginning to end. There was no one near to even challenge his distant lead. Silhanek 'sta¥ed mug in second place. wbile • __ Sprenger rode his way from fifth to a third on the fmallap. Sh awn McConn (Y am ) led t he fiIrst moto of the 250cc Pro class with Larry Wooclt (Hon) behind. Halfway into the race. McConn tired and let Wasick ' fI y b y. WOSIc k eaSl'ly won the moto with McConn second and DeHerrera third. Ex-retired Watu k%t the lead for the first three laps in e second moto with McConn behind. But, WOOck's smooth riding took him to first during the fourth lap, and he kept it, no problem. Watu landed second, with McConn third. Results OT JR: 1. Kenneth Yom CMeil; 2. Jerry Horton (Mei); 3.
