regon-Washington-ldaho-Utah·Alaska-Canada· Northern California-Northern Ne Berlutti and John Coulombe in tow. Berlutti took a tumble leaving the finish to Schlag, Coupe and McRae. Blue Plate number four Scott Rebuck shot to the front of the 125cc Expert race to be cut off by Mark Hearns, last week's winner. Mike Preston jurnped in for the fourth position but by the end of lap one, it was Hearns, Rebuck and Mike Whalen wheel to wheel, as Brad Harrison moved in to pick them off. Rick Ryan showed aggressive riding and moved from sixth to third, giving moto one to Hearns, Rebuck and Ryan. Preston dropped to 20th as a result of a flat tire. He came back for a win in the second moto, but the overall went to Harrison, Ryan and Rebuck. Twenty·five 250cc Experts lined up to do battle with Jim Ellis, Joe Schlag, Larry Wosick and Cantaloupi. Schlag bolted off the starting line followed by Ellis and Kimo Casey. A pileup in the first right· hand sand corner saw Wosick, Ellis and Shawn McConn get the jump on everyone. Halfway through, Schlag lost his lead to a rear wheel problem and pulled off, giving the moto one win to Wosick. Ellis came back to head the pack for moto two with Wosick gaining ground and holding second. Wosick claimed the overall for the day. Results 80 NOV: 1. Vince Vacent. ISuzl; 2. Anderson, Eaton Ice wins at WoodlandMX By Jan Newman WOODLAND, WA, NOV. 28 Jim Anderson and Eric Eaton sewed up the Pro classes at Woodland MX, showing us that even skittery sections of ice are within their abilities. The track was pretty well frozen in most places during practice and even though it wanned up considerably during the day, a couple of back sections resisted any thawing. . The 125cc Juniors, 20 strong, started the day. They were not to the first turn when we discovered who could skate and who couldn't. The scratch was icy, and when one rider near the front slid down, about eight more slid, plowed and dived into a colossal pile. All of the riders got up, but several bikes were stretcher cases. Mike Williams (Yam) led the sur.. vivors to the wire with Bruce Barnes (Hon) second all the way. Chris Studer (Suz) took third from Brian Curtis (Suz) on the final lap. Darryl Waddle (Suz) led the second round, and Studer was second for the overall win. Waddle went 6-1 for second and Williams added a sixth for third. When the 125cc Pros hit the line, they knew it was frozen. Several of them just waited until they got to the icy spots back out of sight to fait. Jim Anderson (Yam) nabbed the lead and put in a flawless ride, ice and all, to win comfortably. Eric Hall (Yam) was second off the line but fell on the third loop allowing Robb Manning (Suz) and Stacy Thorn· ton (Suz) by before he got going. Hall nagged a t Thornton for several la ps before he could move by for the third but two laps later his engine went cold. Yamaha rider Scott Tyler borrowed a buddy's Suzuki to take fourth, and Danny Diesso (Suz) recovered from a first lap slide to take fifth. Thornton headed Anderson for the first lap of moto two, but then Ander· son was gone again for another win. Thornston was gone, too, a couple of laps later when his tranny went. Tyler was there to take over second, which he held all the way. There was a dog fight going on for third between jeff Croppe.r (Suz) and Manning. Cropper was just fai enough ahead to be able to land right under Manning when he laid it down in the whoops. Manning did some mid-air corrections to land mostly on the bike instead of Jeff, but he, too, went down. Manning managed to get going just behind Diesso but went by a lap later to fmish third. When the 250cc Pros left the gate, Eric Eaton took the lead on his new Husky. Anderson was close on his heels as the two pulled out an astounding lead in only one lap. Eaton rode smooth and easy as he pulled away from even Anderson, who seemed to be riding a little rough, during the frrst half. Then Anderson turned on the smooth, and Eaton was making the little mistakes as Anderson ate up the distance between them and took the lead two laps from the end. John Christian (Yam) finished third. Steve Smith (Yam), in his first race after a broken collarbone, led the sec· ond moto off the line, but Anderson took over before the end of the lap. - Eaton moved up to second on lap two, and Christian went to third for the last half. Rob Watilo (Yam) was fourth. Tim Michlitsch (Kaw) led the first Open Pro moto but went down in the back section. We never saw him again. Mechanics kept him sidelined. Eaton bested Christian in both motos for the overall. • CN 00 0') ....-4 Dick Burleson, 1981 AMA National Enduro Champion ... Establishing an all time record of 8 consecutive National Enduro titles.
