Reynaud rips rocky Black Jack Enduro finale By Boyd Bass TULSA, OK, NOV. 22 The Tulsa Trail Riders hosted . the final Black Jack Enduro of the season at the John Zink Ranch. This event was blessed Willie PhH (top) wn aeeond 2IIOIOpen Expert at Rio BnIvo MX. IAbovel Scott Orml8ton.tuffs under Merk Borgmen In Denver teem .peeclwey. Herman hauls at RioMX By Lisa Mllcich HOUSTON, TX, NOV. 22 Dan Conway took an easy holeshot today in the first moto of the 250cc Expert class at Rio Bravo MX Park. Before the day was 18 over, though, six riden would share the fint-place position. Scott Bucsanyi and Willie Phee followed the clOleSt to Conway off the line, but Conway manal{ed to stretch the cushion between them. Ronnie Herman went really high in a large banked berm and went over the edge early in the race. He caught himself before falling ~own, brought the bike back over the edge and continued on, although it set him back some. Conway continued to ride untouChed as Bucsanyi and Phee had at it behind him. Charlie Brown was in founh, Jim Mony in ruth and Mike Clement in sixth. Clement passed Mony after an uphill turn. By the third lap Conway's Honda was nowhere to be seen, Phee was now in fint and Buesanyi was in second.. Clement came next, then Brown. Clement passed Bucsanyi by the next time they came around and was zeroing in on Pbee's Husky. Phee soon stopped by the score booth and was checking something on the bike as Clement eased by him to be the third rider in the number one spot. Four more riden ~ by Phee before he staned up agam and went back out on the track. Clement had a large lead and a clear track ahead as Bucsanyi and Herman were fighting chinp out. Pbee was still hanging in theft at fifth p1ace---·----·· - . . On the seventh lap, Clement's bike looked like it was in trouble, and he, too, slowed down, later revealing he had broken the shock, A new leader in the form of Buesanyi took over with Herman on his tail. He took it a short time later to become the fifth rider in this moto to lead. Phee stopped a sec· ond time to check the bike as Clement was goofing around on his slow speed bike paddling his way down the track. Herman stayed in first to the checkered flag as Dean Walker took second and Bucsanyi third. Brown claimed the holeshot in the second moto and stayed there holding off a hounding Phee and Clement till the second lap when Phee passed him up, as did Clement, who now hounded Phee again for the fint spot. Clement got him in a tight pass, but Phee stayed right there with him. By now Brown was out of the race and off the track. Conway did not reo tum for the second moto after dis· integrating his hub during the first moto. On the fifth lap, it was Clement, Phee, then Herman. The order stayed this way to the white flag controversy. Clement felt it was the last lap and time for the black and white flag. How· ever, the white was out. He went off the track toward the piu, and Phee slowed down, also questioning the act. Herman did not question, however, and continued on to race. Phee decided to be safe rather than sorry and fol· lowed him. Clement was almost into the piu but saw no one was coming with him so he turned around and raced after the leaden. He did not catch them, though, as Herman ran a fiDe 1-1 to first overall as Phee placed aecond. Clement ended up ruth. with/good weather, something milling from the two previous Black JaCK Endul'Oll. Today's trail featured two separate loops, each about 45 miles in length. The fint loop had mostly easy trail and fire roads with speed averages of 18 and 20 mph. The second loop was a faster 24 mph and ran over the semifamous rock terrain on the ranch. Tighter trail and the constant pounding of the rocks required attention to what you were doing. Husky suppon rider Rusty Reynaud had little problem as he gassed his 250cc bike to the overall win with a low score of seven. Right behind Reynaud was Wayne Beindorfwith a nine. To put in a score like this required a lot of skill plus some disregard for the many rocks you bounced off of. Several riden suffered from flat tires, which is typical of this race. Jim Stanfield, a 125cc A rider who is showing lou of skill, ha9 a flat rear tire. He was able' to make repain in about five minutes and salvaged a first place in his class with an 18 point loss. Bruce Raybon had mixed luck. Raybon locked up the overall B honors in the Black Jack Enduro Circuit at this event. He suffered from his second flat tire in two events, was unable to make repain and rode his 2SOcc Husky from Ajax Motorcycle Sales tbe final 25 miles on the flat for a sixth-place finish. Raybon said he is looking forward to next ~ason and competing in the A class. Concerning next year's BjEC, there are 12 evenu planned with the best nine rides averaged for the champion. ship. This year, the top six rides count· ed. The feeling is that l1y counting 75% of the evenu, the riden who are consistent finishers will benefit. - Results AA: 1. Auaty Aoynoud (7); 2.
