Matz magnificent at Arroyo MX By Linda Matz HARLINGEN, TX, NOV. 15 Frank Matz scored an easy first place in the 250-0pen Novice class today at the Harlingen Motocross Association-sponsored motocross races at Arroyo MX Park. Matz took the holeshot in both mot05 and was n~er challenged. There was plenty of action back in the pack, though. Albert Alaniz on a CR250 was forced to ride a near flawless race as Mike Maley on a Honda XR200 kept the pressure on. Lacking horsepower in the long sand straightaway, Maley would catch up and at' tempt to paIS in the tigh~er sections, but Alaniz met every chaIl~. Fmally, on the white flag lap, Maley went down and dropped to fourth place. Moto two, Alaniz failed to start, but Maley found himself once again chasing a Honda CR250. This time it was Mike Meyer holding Maley off. Meyer had crashed on the start of moto one and finished fifth, but by holding Maley off, he ended the day with a second overall. The most intense racing was once again found in the 125cc Novice class with Tom Hamilton and Lee Uribe showing the fans what racing should be. There was usually less tllan a bike· length's difference between' them in both motos. Once again, Hamilton came out on top. A short distance back, Buddy Rowland and Mike Gesell were also locked in a dog fight for third place. With several lead changes in both mot05, Rowland was across the finish line just ahead of Gesell to take third for the day. Moto one of the Senior Mini class saw Jackie Homer out to an early lead which he quickly stretched out before the gremlins once again put his bike out for the day. Meanwhile, Mark Myatt and Blayne Rowland were dic-' ing for second spot with Myatt ahead at the finish. . Moto two belonged to T.R. Brons who took the holeshot and held on with Myatt and Rowland replaying the first round with the same end result al· lowing Myatt a first for the day. Results JR MINI: 1.
