Northern cellfomla-Northem Nev Once Tumidge got past, he really pulled away. Dillon said that when he got back to the flat land of Millican Valley, all he even saw of Tumidge was a little dust. Bill Dowen (Hus) had a long face at the finish line. Most riders would have been overjoyed with a third overall finish, but Dowen really wanted to win this year. Fint 250cc Expert was Alan Holly riding a water·cooled Honda. Bill Dower's younger brother Mark was second 250 in seventh overall position. Even though this was a fast course, and the fint four fmishers were Open bikes, a 125cc Yamaha out of Steve's Yamaha was ninth overall ridden by Steve McCall. At the request of the statewide club, the Over The Hill Gang, .a couple classes were tried for this one rllce Over ~O yean of age and both an Expert and an Amateur class. T~out was great, and it will probably be a permanent class in 1982. Fint OTHG was Mike Mather riding a K TM in 11th overall. The Amateur start was supposed to be ~O minutes after the Experts but was delayed about 20 minutes more due to an injury on the Expert start. 250cc Expert rider Alan Seymour .was hit by a huge rock hidden in the dust and was at first though to be seriously hurt. Treated with kid gloves by EMTs from Deschutes County Search & Rescue and an EMT III riding behind the riden, he was loaded on a backboard and into a van for a quick trip to St. Charles Medical Center of Bend. Seymour's injuries were found to be one broken arm and a beat up face. A good sportsmanship award should go to Glenn Wiensz as he and Arlin Pestes stopped at the crash site and waved other riden around Seymour whd was apparently unconscious laying face down in the dust. Wiensz then rode back to the starting line to delay the Amateur start. Wiensz, a past overall winner of this event, did not get back into the race until he knew that the Amateurs' were not coming and that Seymour was in good hands. He probably started ~O minutes late and still finished 65th overall.
