hern Nevada~Southern Californla·Arlzona-Southern Nevada· Southern Calilornla·Arlzona-Southern Nevada.Southern Call Throughout both motos Toyama's competition came from Tim Rutherford, who stayed glued to Toyama's tail throughout the first moto and stayed within 'his sights, in fourth the second time around. In "first moto Dan Hammack found himself in third, hounding Rutherford inch by inch around the track. Hammack had his hands full, as well, trying to keep ahead of Gilben Valdez. When the moto finally wound to a close, Toyama led the way followed by Rutherford, Hammack, and Valdez. The second encounter once more found Toyama the front-runner. Kenny Clifton, piloting a DG Yamaha, turned on the gas and took' over seconii, holding Valdez to third and Rutherford to fourth. When the checkered flag waved the Minis home, Toyama wheeled his bike into the winner's circle, Rutherford captured second place gold and third overall went to Valdez. Cun McCuistion, riding for Kawasaki, cleaned up in the 250cc Pros. The first moto found McCuistion out in front and his cool, green machine burning a streak around the course. Mike Beier, riding for La Habra Yamaha, was trying to catch McCuistion and put Yamaha out in front, but was held back to second down to the end. Ron Baumganner, also piloting a Kawasaki, ran a strong third. The second' encounter found McCuistion once more the leader with Beier once more in the shotgun position. This time they had Vere Butler to contend with and Butler badgered them both over every inch of the Saddleback lurf. When the day dreW to a close, McCuistion took home a pair of aces and the winning money of the day, Beier came home to second place loot and third overall honors went to Butler. Tonight he raced as a Pee Wee Expen and had another competitor in Tony Sulek. Densford took. his Dick Allen's Yamaha-sponsored bike to the win in both motos for the first place trophy. Many of the riders, though very young, have been racing for several years. Jesse James is the leader of the Pee Wee Stock Junior class, and this is his very first season. James has over 20 wins and a super start in motocross racing to his name. Jesse won the first moto tonight ahead ofJason Biggs and Bobby Garcia. Garcia came back in the final moto to take the win ahead of Jesse. The overall win fell into Jesse's hands with a 1-2 tally. Tony Sulek had to take the runnerup position in the Pee Wee Expen class, but he had his moments elsewhere. Sulek picked up the first place trophy in the 60cc Stock Novice race as he edged out Joel Tokarsky. Tony then sOloed in the 60cc Modified Novice class. Results PEE WEE STK JR: 1. ~ _ (Yam); 2. Gilboy great at CMC Ascot night MX ' By Tom Corley GARDENA, CA, OCT. 22 A full-on battle was fought by the 125cc Intermediates this evening at Ascot's Continental Moto-sports Club's motocross, On the front line were the super-quick racers Bill and Bruce .Delgado. However, both of their efforts were shot down by a rider who is destined to be a fast 125cc Pro, Sean Gilboy. Bruce Delgado shot out ahead of the 10 other competitors in the first moto. His competition was really pressing him hard led by Gilboy. Gilboy passed -him within one lap and led the rest from that point. Bruce led Bill and Larry Bohlken settled in fourth. Said Gilboy about his fantastic pass against Bruce Delgado: "We came down off of the TT jump, and he took the inside and I shut him off on the outside going to the barrelsl" Gilboy is not known for getting the holeshot. Instead, he prefers to start on the outside of the staning gate so he can avoid traffic and shove in around them. In the final moto, Bill Delgado got the best start and didn't make any mistakes. Bruce was in second but apparently did make a mistake because Gibloy slid. by him as did Bohlken. Gilboy tried every trick he knew but could not get by Bill. However, Gilboy was still the man who took the top honors as his 1-2 beat Bill's g-1 and Bruce's 2-4. Results 50 JR: 1. John Mcleod II~). 60 EX: 1. Devid Mcleod (Vam). 80 JR: 1. Dan Barnett (Vam); 2.
