PRODUCT EVALUATION IAWAS. S FOR ,TODAn SUPERĀ· ! BIlE C Po ~ t ..c 8 QJ ~ Z Raider Remote radar detector You're out having a good time on Sunday afternoon cruising the back roads. The pavement is fine and you're gassing it through a sweeping turn. You crest a slight hill...and_the party's over. Your local law enforcement officer was waiting on the other side, pulled you over, and has you clocked at 68 in a 55 mph zone. Sound familiar? If it does, that scene doesn't have to be repeated. You can bolt a Raider Remote radar detector on your scoot and travel at your own pace with relative ease. The Raider will help you watch your speed when the need arises. l! features a control box that is separate from the receiver, which makes for stylish and p~actical mounting of the unit. The control box has two switches, a and a highway/off/city switch loud/soft switch. In town the city setting blocks out signals other than radar which would set the unit off and make for an annoying distraction. The highway mode pulls in all signals. The loud setting is just that - a piercing high-pitched beep that can be heard at 80 .mph with a full-face helmet on. shield down. The inclusion of the loud setting in the new Raider Remote was needed as owners of previous units complained of not being able to hear their detector when traveling over 50 mph. Mounting brackets and instructions are included with each detector. but we preferred to fabricate brackets for our Honda CBX. The receiver dropped neatly into a fairing pocket while the control box looked integrated mounted out of an instrument hole in the fairing. We have since mounted the detector on a Kawasaki GPzl100 and it looks like a factory option. We keep ours on all the time and it does keep us informed. Short beeps let you know you're approaching a trouble area, and when the beeps turn into one long drone you'd better be on the binders. The Raider Remote retails for $199.95 ,and is available from Highway Drydock Corporation, P.O. Box 2522. Petaluma. CA 94952, or call 707/778-7000. Tom Mueller - AND TOMORRO\YS. No doubt you already know about Kawasaki and Eddie Lawson's dominance of Superbike Racing that earned them the 1981 AMA Superbike Championship. But after you eliminate the other factory race teams that followed Lawson's lead this year, what was the top privateer in the country riding? Why. a Kawasaki, of course. Harry Klinzmann and his Racecraftersmodified and -prepared Kawasaki KZlOOO raced competitively and consistently throughout the year to finish fifth overall and first privateer in the AMA Superbike Series. That, and Lawson's title, should be enough to convince you of Kawasaki's ~I . -- "UI'R .... r O .... l - unsurpassed performance and durability. But consider this: Klinzmann's machine is a 1979 model! And it's probably got more Superbike Racing miles on it than any other machine on the track. A true testament to Kawasaki's ruggedness and the highperformance parts, know-how and tuning wizardry of Racecrafters, 7801 Canoga Ave., Canoga Park, CA 91304. (213) 709-5171. Whether you plan on being tomorrow's Superbike Champ, or just owning the best in Superbikes, the only answer is Kawasaki. Klinzmann does it on a '79. Lawson did it on an '81. Just imagine what you can do on a new '82. - Let the good times roll. 'Ne 5 t Bellingham.
