BeltlllCk takes top honors at OTSSM By Bob Alloy ORANGE, CA, OCT. 10 A light rain was falling when practice got underway making visibility a bit difficult for those wearing goggles. However, this 38 slight rain had a redeeming quality in that t~ SaddJeback track stayed damp even through ~ second moto. There were 19 of us Old Timers battling away for top honors and lots of action. This is especially true ~re with those nice 15 lap motos. There were only five races today and tl1ings were fmished by one p.m. Jim Beltinck. manager of Saturday Saddleback and Old Timer Maste.r. did two sensational wins in motos one and two. If only we could all recover so nicely after knee surgery. Keep going that way, jim. Another sensation was Marvin olson who blasted into two second places. Our one and only female, Old Timer Lorie Watson of ~ Experts division, certainly showed us just how good a U5 can be. Lori got that winning gear and found that winning line and wrapped it up with a beautiful first in both motos. Bob Berdyck loves rough and long motos, and ~ took advantage of these qualities to come up with a good second in the first moto. Hal Grady zoomed in to take third. The second moto's second placer was George Spearing on his trusty Husky. Berdyck charged in there for third. Amateur Don Carey did some very fast riding and was rewarded with that prized first. Bob Alloy managed to come in second in both motos. Novice Tony Chipp did some powerfull stuff out there and took that prized first with him. Mel Shapiro found a good line that took him right into sec· ond place. The second moto reversed ~ order of winners. First place win was all Shapiro's and Tony took second which is really dividing things equally. Results MASTBlS: ,. Jim 1IoIlinck: 2. Morvin Olean. EXP.EIlTS;. ,. Lori W",",,": 2. In the final race Bates was run into and crashed, taking a DNF with a skinned back. Sassen was on top again and Tony Mercier placed The 250cc Intermediate class is one of the more competitive races in nighttime action at Indian Dunes. run this evening by tile California Racing Club. Two weeks ago Tony Pulliam pulled off the victory but last week Kenny Parry took two moto wins. Both riders were on the starting gate this week, and after two motos of some real knock·down, drag-out racing. Pulli3!D walked off with tile overall win. In the first moto Pulliam had the lead which lasted to t~ checkered flag. Kenny Parry caught the second wave of the flag ahead of Randy Pretzer. In the second moto Parry was after the leader Pulliam. They came to a rough comer past the fmish stretch and Parry tried to make a radical pass. It not only failed, but Parry went down as well and Pretzer and Henry Walker got by to take over second and third. A perfect I -I tally gave Pulliam the win over Pretzer and Parry. Rick Houghtaling won ~ frrst 125cc Intermediate moto over Randy Lippie and Jim Spotts. In the final moto Lippie was up front and really moving on his Suzuki, only to fall. Jim Boyd held t~ lead from that point on over Houghtaling and Lippie. Boyd had a fourth place finish in t~ first moto, so ~ fmal moto victory boosted him to second behind Houghtaling'S 12.
