The day's event got underway with the start of the 250cc Pro class when Craig Gormley (Yam) roosted into the lead trailed by Juan Benevidez (C·A), Curt McCuistion (Kaw), Greg Zitterkopf (Yam) and Friu Schlegel (Suz). By the third lap McCuistion managed to slip Past the second place Bencvidez until the sixth lap when the Can·Am rider regained his position. But Benevidez's luck turned sour when he went down on the next lap, dropping back to fifth. Meanwhile, Zitterlr.opf began to put the pressure on McCuistion ~ in'a tough duel during the remalDing seven lape. It was Zitterkopf who won the batde over second by meaking past McCuistion only two lape from the finish. Gormley took the checkered flag f1J'St followed by Zitterlr.opf, McCuistion and Benavidez. It was McCuistion who jumped into the lead in the second moto pursued by Zitterkopf, Schlegel, Gormley and Scott Manning (Yam). McCuistion could only manage to hold on to his lead for a few laps before he went down handing the lead over to Zitterkopf. Zitterlr.opfs lead only lasted four laps --before he also fell, dropping back to fourth. It seemed as thoUgh nobody wanted the lead as the _ top apot _ to Schlegiel.
