Registrations rose from 5.339,358 in 1979 to 5.681,479 in 1980. During the same time period, motorcycle accidents decreased by half a percent. There were 177 ,160 accidents in 1980 compared with 177.984 in 1979. Fatalities rose by 5.1 percent in 1980 from 4,850 in 1979 to 5,097 in 1980. Again in 1980 the ratio of both acci· dents and fatalities [0 the number of registrations was down. Accidents per 10,000 registrations decreased from ·333.3 per 10,000 motorcycles in 1979 to 311.8 accidents per 10,000 motorcycles in 1980. And, there ~ere 8.97 fatalities per 10,000 motorcycles in 1980 compl1red with 9_08 fatalities per 10,000 motorcycles in 1979.
